My bf just got sent to prison on the 1st. I've read up on visits and stuff, but information on the Internet can only get you so far. Hoping someone can answer these questions:

About how long does it take to get approved for visits in general once I send the form?
We have a child together but aren't married. How would we go about getting family visits? How long would that take?

It varies (eyeroll, like everything at SQ) on how long it takes for you to know if you are approved. I believe, I found out in 3 weeks that I was approved. It can take longer or shorter, though.

You have to be legally married to have family visits. Lifers, those on DR, SO, and those with DV on their record can not have family visits. Once you are married, I am not sure how long it takes to get family visits. Maybe someone will come along who has experience with them.

He can ask his counselor if he is eligible for family visits when he sees them. (the counselor)
Visitation approval can take a bit. I think it was like a month for me.
Family visits are a whole nother ball of wax.
You do have to be married, or a family member.

oh, and to wisconsindream, Im gonna assume her loved one is in San Quentin, as that is the forum she posted in.

Hello, I have a few questions I hope can be answered. We have a family visit coming up in a few weeks and I'm not sure of a few things. Where my husband was before we were allowed to bring our own sheets & towels is that allowed here? Also I will be bringing our 6 month old son, do they have a crib for him & can bring him his own food? Also are they really picky as to what shampoo & toiletries your bring, like does it have to be alcohol free? Lastly am I allowed to bring dvds for my son & us to watch. Any info would or if you can send me the link to where I could find this info will be appreciated! Thanks!

Family Visit** approval is based on a number of factors. Yes, you'll need to be married. A life sentence, domestic violence record, sex crimes, and crimes against a minor will exclude him from FVs. Any recent disciplinary action can also bar him from approval.

Click here for Title 15 Family Visit section, beginning on page 105.

**Family Visits are, at their core, meant to keep inmates and immediate family members (spouses, children, parents, siblings) in contact as a means of rehabilitation. California is one of the few remaining states to still support the FV program. Lots of folks are working really hard to open up doors to FVs for those currently excluded. When we call them conjugal visits, we erase the image of the family unit and promote the idea of "sex for inmates". Please support those working on behalf of our loved ones and our families by referring to the program by its appropriate title, Family Visits.

Hello my husband just went to mainline and completed his Family Visiting Package. He asked me to send the original marriage certificate to the Family Visiting officer. I can get another copy to send them but not sure if I should send my original.
I cannot get in touch with the Family visiting officer but I am willing to go standby. Does anyone have info on family visits. Any information would be great thanks

If you can get a copy of the original one from the county you married in, I'd do that.
In case they lose the Original original.
It just has to be one with the embossed seal from the county.

I tried to look this up. I do not believe inmates on DR can receive a family visit.
https://www.cdcr.ca.gov/visitors/vis...ng-guidelines/
Some may be allowed CONTACT visits but not family visits.

At least according to what Ive just reviewed.
