Hi there if you son is in danger he needs to speak to his counsellor or unit manager and inform them he is under threat. He can request protective custody its not an easy option but if he feels threatened he needs to report it.

You need to get some support for yourself also as you need to stay well mentally and physically to support your son.Have a lookand see if there are any support groups in your area for prisoners families.

Welcome to Prison Talk and to the Parent's forum. The beginning is always the hardest time for everyone. Take care of yourself so you can continue to support your son.

I hope the prison staff moves him to a housing unit away from the inmates he already had problems with.

I know this is terrible for you. There was a meeting this week in Baton Rouge of a newly formed group for re-entry. Many of the people there were from agencies that deal with people presently serving time in the Baton Rouge area. Here is a link to their site- http://www.caparc.org/
I'd try going there & contacting them. They have contacts in different ministry & other groups that can help you both through this. Even though they focus on re-entry, they start many of their programs while a person is still serving their sentence.

Stay strong & reach out. You've been given some good suggestions by others that might help.

I'm so sorry. That's absolutely terrifying for a mother to go through. I hope your son is okay and things are going better for him.

And I agree, I'd look for a support group. We're so limited in what we can do to help our LOs out here that sometimes the best thing we can dois to make sure we're keeping ourselves healthy for us and them.

I'm so sorry for you and your son. Terrifying. We want to intervene and protect them. It can feel like you are very helpless. May God help your son learn to cope. May he be surrounded by angels with swords drawn. May those in power subdue those who intimidate and harm others. ((Hugs))
