The process is different at many of the facilities, so the best thing to do would be to contact the chaplain at the facility.

Hi, my name is Tusonah and my life partner is serving his time in Stateville Prison. I just received a marriage package from him. The papers I got are pink in color and he has already filled in his information. It states that, I have to pay $40 for the marriage license, he has to pay $150 for the process, then I have to pay an additional $90 for the Chaplin. I don't understand, if they were not allowed to get married, why did I get this marriage package in the mail??

Yes, this is what I was saying because, my long-time partner just mailed me a marriage package and all of his information is already filled-out. I just want to know about the different procedures and are we allowed some time together after the wedding?? I'm glad to her someone else has actually gotten married.

Default Marrying Someone In Prison

What do you have to do to get married? WHat happens? How does it work? What happens to an inmate if you marry them while in jail?

They are allowed to marry in Stateville. I am an Ordained Minister and I called to the prison myself cos, I was going to perform a ceremony... Everything is a go....

Default Getting Married in Hillsboro Illinois

I've gone through the Illinois specific thread a few times but it seems like no one has been on there in quite a while and I'm hoping to get whatever answers I can as fast as I can. My fiancee and I want to get married while he's in Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro. He's put in requests to talk to the chaplin but they only told him that Graham doesn't have a chaplin. Or at least one that would marry us. He has recently signed over power of attorney to me because of some medical reasons, and we hoped that we could just get a technical marriage done. However, I'm not sure if Illinois allows marriage by proxy. The only other thing I can think of is if a minister were to come from an outside church to perform the counciling and service for us at the prison. Does anyone have any experience with doing this, and if you do could you recommend a minister near Hillsboro? I'm really really unfamiliar with that area so I'm clueless. And I'm also worried that a minister willing to do this may be hard to come by. Any advice?

last time I studied this area, marriage by proxy was not allowed. a brief review of the Marriage Act shows that a proxy provision is still not in the statute. Sorry.

It's almost impossible to answer that question. One minute a facility allows marriages and then the next minute they don't. It would help to know which facility your loved one is in. But if nothing else, you can call the facility and speak to the chaplain to find out.

Question Getting married in prison, what can I expect?/Illinois

Hi, my fiancé is locked up in Hill CC in Galesburg, Illinois. He wrote the chaplain a letter to get info about getting married. The chaplain wrote him back and told him that they're at impasse because of some reason, so we're not able to get married yet.
Now does he know that in Dixon he can get married and he'll apply for transfer April 2016. But if it all goes trough, what can I expect of a marriage in prison? Does anyone know something about this?
Maybe there's already another subject about this, but I'm new here... so I'm not up to date

You may find answers posted in this forum already. Also, be sure to check the IL Prison forums.

Until the prison/Chaplain authorizes your wedding, it won't happen, so he needs to continue to ask the Chaplain when, and if you two can marry.

There are many changes coming down in IDOC, one of which Dixon is expanding its mental health capacity.

When did that start? Because I married my husband at Menard in '99 .. I'm not saying its not true, but I never knew that they could refuse anyone a marriage license.

Default Illinois weddings to inmates

OK so my baby proposed, I said yes. He requested a marriage packet, does anyone know how long it takes to even get that cause it's been a while with no response? Also he is in Lawrence correctional center, has anyone been married there and if so how long did it take to get through all the red tape? Just looking for anyone who has been married in this prison that might have advice to quicken the process.
