It was hard for me to grasp at first but he is under 2 years now so that will fly by and I just had to keep telling myself it's for the best and this is just the way God wants it to be so I have to have faith in Him if nothing else. With this lockdown and everything I don't even know if he's left yet
Anyway, the chaplains name is Mrs. Barrett, I wish I could give you more info.

Is there anything that can be done about this?? I mean shouldn't they get the same rights as if they were still in Cali?? It just doesn't make any sense to me. I talked to someone yesterday at La Palma and they said maybe they could do marriage by proxy???

Anywho, we are thinking of getting married but not sure if it is available out of state. I posted this thread in La Palma specificially b/c I wanted to know if La Palma is doing inmate marriages?

Has anyone had any issues w/out of state marriages? Are they allowing them?

CONGRATZ!

I'm sorry I didn't respond to ur message before. I didn't see it till now.
have you gotten the affidavit signed? I believe the week I got married was the first time the prisons done that procedure so the paper couldn't have been in ur packet. You should call chaplin lopez to check on it if you haven't already. Maybe he can mail it to you. Or else its a lot of driving back and forth to the court like I had to do

Good luck and congratz again

I got married in May. Yes, they do, do them on Mondays. Yes u can visit on that day. Did u get your affidavit done? If u have to do it that day...like I did. Make sure u go at 8 in the mor. Its drive, and it takes a long time for the guys to have there's signed. I left 8 in the mor and didn't get done till about 12 in the afternoon

OH WAIT! I'm sorry. I don't think we have visits on Mondays anymore. So I don't think you would be able to visit. Sorry for the mix up.

Hey bswifey636 I have a question how long did the process to get married took you? I've been thinking of getting married their since it seems like its taking forever for my man to get transferred back to cali I heard that all the level 4 prisons are full so it may be a while till he gets transferred how much does everything cost? Can u give me a run down on the whole procedures please! Thank you for any info

Sure thing

-your man needs to request a packet from the coun @ la palma.
-He will then fill out the paper work along with a letter stating why he wants to marry you and mail it home to you.
-when you receive it, you will sign your part with your own letter and mail it to him. I believe the chaplin Lopez added the affidavit to the packets. If so, you will need to take that and get it notarized..it just confirms that you are who you say you are.
-mail the packet back to your husband.
-he reviews it and turns it into the chaplin.
-chaplin reviews, oks it, and sends it off to Rancho Cordova in CA for approval.
-California approves the paper work then mails it back to La Palma.
-packet gets sent to the couns and warden for ANOTHER approval.
-Chaplin calls you to pick a date (Mondays after 5pm only)
-He emails the judge to see if its avalible.
-then the chaplin calls you for the OK.

We turned our packet in, in Nov.
La Palma sent it off to CA about Feb.
CA approved about March.
Warden approved within 2 weeks.
And another 2 weeks for the judge.

Got Married May 16th.

Every case is diff. depending on the inmate's history. I kno some people that got married within 3 months and I kno others that took 2 years.
We ran into delays because La Palma kept changing the Chaplins in charge of the wedding procedures. -_-

It helps to know who your man's coun is in both La Palma and Rancho Cordova. I called whoever at least once a week to check on our packet. Even the warden.

It gets frustrating at times but always be sweet, calm, and act confused (when needed) lol....they will be more willing to help.

marraige license was $72
Judge fee was $150

There is also a $26 fee for a legal copy of your marraige. But that won't need to be mailed into the court till a week or two after the judge turns in your paper work. She explains it all.

I hope it helps. If you have any other questions plz do ask.

And yes, the only moves California is doing right now is moving guys further out of state. They are waiting for voters to decide what we want to do with taxes. *LADIES PLEASE READ UP ON IT AND VOTE FOR OUR MEN*

According to the Supreme Court’s decision, the inmate population statewide in California’s 33 adult prisons must be no more than:

•167 percent of design capacity by Nov. 28, 2011,
(Lower by 10,203 inmates)

•155 percent of design capacity by May 24, 2012,
(Lower by 9,573 inmates)

•147 percent of design capacity by Nov. 26, 2012,
(lower by 6,398 inmates)

•137.5 percent of design capacity by May 24, 2013.
