Question Do's and don'ts for visiting ISCI

my visitation was approved and I will be going to see my friend there in a few days..however this being my 1st time and no prior experience on this kind of thing (being nervous, excited, etc) I was wondering if anyone has any "do's and/or don'ts" regarding this facility?

Its been a while since I visited ISCI. My husband and I were married there and the visiting staff was wonderful. Now that was almost two years ago, but I cant imagine it being anything differant. If I understood the visiting times correct they may be a little differant then they used to be.

I cant be certain these times are correct. I will do some checking on that, but here is the best information I have so far. My husband is at ISCI so I will be visiting soon. If there have been any changes to this information then I will update it them. If you go visit and have anything to add then please let me know and I will update

Thanks TNC..I've read so many posts/threads on here about prisons/jails being so bad and the staff being worse I was getting worried that all places were like that. It really helps to know that some aren't when you're already worried/nervous being "new". As far as visiting times I do have differently. My friend is in Unit 10 and he said I could visit him on
Thurs: (3:30pm-3:00pm check-in) (5:30pm-6:00pm check-in) Visits:3:30pm-8:00pm,
Fri: (10:00am-10:30am check-in) (12:30pm-1:00pm check-in) Vists:10:30am-3:00pm,
Sun: (7:15am-7:45am check-in) Visits:8:00am-10:00am
After my visit on Thurs I will be sure to post the experience I had there and add any other info that could help anyone else. Thanks so much!!

When I was visiting there you had to get there and line up outside. If you wait and get there to late then you risk not being able to get in. At the time the visiting room was pretty small and it seems there was only about 30 tables. It used to be that each unit had only two visiting days. Once its visiting time they open the lobby doors for everyone to get checked in. I have never had anything but a pleasant experience at ISCI. Its always hard the first time not knowing what to expect. Even when you have been visiting at another prison and change over its hard. Every prison is differant. My advice is just follow what others do.

I do know at the time because so many people were wanting to visit and the room was pretty small they were trying to adjust the visiting. Maybe adding days was how they adjusted. If you have any specific questions then feel free to ask me. I will try and answer them the best I can

Hi there, my husband is currently there at isci and so far i have had a great experience. The co's are so nice, they try to make you feel as comfortable as they can but of course still enforce the rules. I have found that they actually show you respect and not look down on you. I am sure some prisons co's are just rude, but not there. You should be fine. When you first start going you'll get the feel of things and the other wives. Oh yeah,if you are coming from a long ways away. You can call ahead of time to make a special visit, and you can have an alll day visit. That's what i do. But you only get three days a month to have all day visits. I usually stay the night. Well good luck to you. Alli

I just got my visiting approval for ISCI to see my husband and I wondered if anyone had any more information about the actual process. How early should I get there? Will I need to show ID at the gate? Where is parking? ETC. Any information would be very helpful I am supposed to go see him this Friday. Thank you!

Parking is right in front of the facility. You'll want to be there 30 minutes before the prisoner's scheduled visiting time, hours which should be posted in his unit. Bring nothing in except for your photo ID, car key, and up to $20 in quarters (in a small clear plastic zip-loc bag) for the vending machines.

Make sure you adhere to the dress-code for visitors. More info here: http://www.idoc.idaho.gov/content/prisons/visiting

Do not go to the door prior to visitor check in time. Do not even take tissue, the CO will take it. I did take more than $20 in change in and had no problems. I got a clear make-up bag at Walmart as did many of the other visitors.

You will get a table number when you check in. Write it on your hand so you don't forget. If you do they are really good about telling you when you get into the visiting room.

Also make sure you know his IDOC number, and unit number.

Happy visiting and enjoy your time.

Kathy
