Default Article: AR. Says Pay For Your Incarceration

http://epaper.ardemgaz.com/Repository/getFiles.asp?Style=OliveXLib:ArticleToMail&Type=te xt/html&Path=ArDemocrat/2006/02/24&ID=Ar02400[/url]

The state seeks to seize the money under the State Prison Inmate Care and Custody Reimbursement Act, which allows assets from inmates for the cost of their imprisonment. Leslie Ballard received the money as beneficiary of her father’s individual retirement account.

Dina Tyler says........
“We have a computerized banking system for inmates, and if they start to get a large amount of money in their inmate accounts, we notify the attorney general’s office,” she said. “And if we find out that an inmate has a large amount of cash outside their inmate accounts, we notify the A.G.’s office.” Prison officials learned of the substantial amount of money in Ballard’s outside bank account because all inmate mail, except legal mail, is subject to being read.

why not.Arkansa tries to keep there people poor.We pay taxes so government can live better than it's people. So why not take what an inmate has left. kick the dog while it's down, what a great way to think. No wonder so many americans don't believe in the system an move out of the USA. it's a shame

Hello, I am in the military and my brother is at Brickeys. I am adding my brother as a beneficiary to my military life insurance. If I die overseas, he'll get some money from the policy. Will the state of Arkansas take it?

since when have they been charging the inmates to go to the infirmary? Maybe they have been all along and I just didn't know it. I'm the only person who adds to my mans books and I can't add much due to the fact I have to take care of my responsibilities out here. He's lucky to get $65-70 a month from me. Well he had $10 last week and he says they took out for him going to the infirmary. wth?

yes, it costs $$ to go to the infirmary/dentist...kinda like a copay out here. It's only a couple dollars per visit I believe, and they charge for just about every visit, usually even if it's just a follow-up.
