Be wary, any deviation from the travel schedule that appears in the written unescorted furlough instructions is a violation. Folks have been returned to prison when a family member decided to ride on the same public bus with the individual, who is still "in bop custody".

If the flight is cancelled, he will have two phone numbers to call to report the problem, the prison and the HWH. My advice (for what it's worth to you) is to wait to receive instructions on how to travel before doing anything.

We made it!

Our flight wound up being delayed significantly. So at 920 when he was basically supposed to report to the HWH here, but we were still in Duluth, he called and they were like, we don't care, we don't want to hear from you, call Duluth. So, he called Duluth and they said, they'll just call the HWH and tell them he'll be 3 hours late. By the time we walked in, no one seemed to give 2 hoots. All they did was say to him "are you the one who's flight was delayed?". He said yes, and that was it, end of story. So we got there at 12:30, and I didn't leave until about 4:45. Very long day. I will write tomorrow for those that have been going through the HWH process now and what is allowed and what isn't.

Some stuff is pretty stupid. Here they didn't make him go through any kind of detector machine and they hadn't searched his bags. I am sure when he's not in the room they will ultimately go through his stuff.

It's a little strange being able to call him whenever I want and at first it was hard to get used to the idea of knowing we can say whatever we want about whomever we want without anyone listening in or without that stupid recording playing. He also is very meek in terms of wanting to go up and ask anything. If he keeps sitting waiting for them to do anything I would still be there. They sort of "forgot" about him after they did intake and we were sitting for over an hour. I told him to ask what is going on. Sure enough, they were like "oh, your room is ready". That was pretty annoying.

Anyway, more tomorrow.

Yes, thank you! the halfway house info will be much appreciated by many folks, both current and future members / guests! And I know you know your way to the Federal forum for posting the halfway house info but if you're busy and harried, here is a link to the Federal sub-forum for Federal Probation, Supervised Release, Halfway House and Community Supervision HERE.

If you have a release date for him to come home, let me know (PM), I'll re-open your thread and change the title so we can keep on counting down the days!!

My husband has two more items to complete for orientation which unfortunately can’t be completed until Monday at the earliest. One item is tomorrow and the other is son sort of orientation with someone from the parole office. Not his PO but general info. His case manager told him today that when he finishes the thing on Monday she will put in for him to go to home confinement. Here is the bs of it. She told him that it is up to the BoP that has the first al say. However, at the prison, the BOP had previously approved him for HC as soon as he finished orientation so it makes no sense that they would suddenly change their mind. He’s also worried that if there’s another shutdown that he then can’t get approved to go home until it’s over and if it’s anything like the last time, good luck.

She has also not mentioned anything to him whatsoever about a job, which is another oddity. The one constant is he can get a 4 hour religious pass weekly and she put in a request for him to go out for dinner with me for Valentines Day for which he would get 3 hours if it’s approved. He also has a dr appt next week and is approved for a max (standard) of 6 hours to be gone. What I don’t like is that we have a bunch set up for him and she said the bop may not approve them if you have too many. Wtf? After having poor or no care for over a year why the hell would they prevent him from going to get his medical needs (at his expense) taken care of? And again if there’s a shutdown I’m worried about approval for those since those too need to go through the bop.

Some of the stuff makes absolutely no sense. He also has yet to attend any part of orientation that is actually relevant to him or his crime with the exception of how urinalysis work while you’re there and out of the hwh.

This is night 7 in the HWH so we are basically down to no more than 45 nights. Having him out is great but this definitely puts more strain on a family having a loved one in a hwh than at home or even prison to some degree because of all the extra stuff I need to deal with since he’s at the hwh and the trips I have to take to the city. Lots to juggle and it’s like taking care of another child who is completely helpless. The good need is other than laundry and his medical expenses/insurance, it’s cost us next to. Irving with him being there and I don’t have the expenses of traveling like when I was flying up to see him.

Hah, it's ok. He's managing and some of it is actually not all bad I realized. I brought him an iPhone and it's actually forcing him to learn to figure some of it out on his own instead of asking me how to show him everything, so that's good. I would be losing a lot of patience with him too, so this way he has a ton of time on his hands and can learn how to do it! I also have some research projects I need done that if he were in the house, he would be working on other stuff, so I am able to delegate those to him too. So in a way, him being gone, but having access to a phone and internet now makes a huge difference.

He was able to go to Target and a restaurant last night with the HWH. I think 7 guys were able to go. Of course, for that the curfew didn't matter and they didn't get back until after 9. But he said, of course most of the guys had no shopping bags after Target, so either they went only for the meal, and/or they were the ones that were sitting in the Target not shopping but meeting up with other people because he saw that they met with friends/family at the Target. The driver dude from the HWH apparently just dropped them all off and then told them what time he would be back.

My husband needed some clothes so he went, and it was probably good to just get out. Today we are expecting some snow, hopefully not a lot, because he gets out for 4 hours later for his synagogue time so I'm going down and we'll then grab dinner and have some business things to discuss. I am finally over my horrendous cold, and caught up on some stuff at home and know he is surviving, wish he were home, but having the constant contact and knowing he is safe and not too far, is huge.

Yay! Peace and some relief. You're in the home stretch. Xoxo

He finished all the requirements of orientation today!

Now the fun begins. To see if they grant him the home confinement as he has met the requirements as he has been told, or if they're full of complete BS (which is what we're expecting) and they keep him there!

No mention of a job requirement to get out either. If they tell him he can't get the HC he is at least going to ask for a weekend pass. Good luck with that I guess.

He does have a job lined up, but since he was actually told by someone not to get a job as opposed to getting one, he is not rushing to have them put it in the system. However, if they do ultimately say, "can't go home without a job" he can tell them on the spot he has one and is ready to start, which is good as that will keep him busy and finally bring in some cash. I guess the good thing about him working there and making $ is that he's not home costing $, other than the insurance.

He's also already talked to people who have reached out to him that want him to do some consulting, so on top of his job, if that pans out, then he can get on his feet hopefully and start paying back the loan he received for his restitution, even though no one is banging down his door for that, unlike they would be if it were the FLU! Thank god.
