The commissary list varies from prison to prison and also changes periodically in each one. When I was teaching SpEd Science at SCI Houtzdale, I got ahold of a list when we were doing a unit on nutrition. We used that, plus a copy of the week's menu to see if they could balance meals for themselves for the week with the food pyramid. Just barely. Anyway, when I transferred with the juveniles to SCI Pine Grove, there was barely anything in the commissary. Talk about upset inmates. My son, who is there, mentions every so often that some new item has been added. I also had to work in the commisary at Houtzdale once during a lock-down, so I have a pretty fair memory of what kinds of things were there.

Cartons of all kinds of tobacco products, unless the prison is tobacco free. Tickets for ice cream if it is sold in the yard. Tickets for photographs if the inmates have to pay for them instead of the visitors. Phone time. Greeting cards. Underwear, socks, brown shorts, & sweatsuits. Stationery supplies. Nail clippers (which the staff aren't allowed to have, but the inmates are), sewing kits, and disposable razors. A small variety of personal hygiene products, including ethnic hair stuff, which the guys for some reason call cosmetics. (The problem is that they can't have any products that contain alcohol or which have been used in the past to make bombs, etc.) A very few over-the-counter drugs like Tylenol. Instant coffee, hot chocolate, tang, and powdered milk. A huge variety of chips, candy bars, snack cakes, and cereal. The largest variety of instant soups-in-a-cup that I have ever seen in my life. A bunch of different beef sticks. Tuna and jalapenos (they had pouches of tuna years before the public did). Nothing that has to be refrigerated. Nothing in cans or bottles. I'm sure I'm forgetting something. The "master" commissary list is on the DOC website. If it's not on that list, the local commissary can't carry it, and you can't special order it for your loved one, either.

I have a commissary list that was sent to me about 2 weeks ago... I do want to say that the commissary is now the only place that the inmates can get their shoes from. It use to be that you could order shoes and boots from approved vendors, and have them sent in, but now that privilege is gone and they must purchase their shoes at the commissary... I do know that powdered milk was just added to the commissary list, but it is 69 cents for a half of a pint, which is absolutely rediculous. Other than that, nothing new has been added lately.

OK, folks, here it is. A genuine current SCI Pine Grove Commisary list. It's 3 pages long, in PDF format. I apologize for the bottoms of the pages being cut off, but my flat scanner is only so big.

My son got moved to Graterford, and I finally got a new commissary list from him. It's quite a bit different from Pine Grove's, so I'm posting it. Does anyone have any lists from other PA prisons that we could post?

Default Commissary funds

Hi All,
I am still very new to all this stuff. Can somone tell me the best way to get money to an inmate? Should I go through J-pay or the prison itself. My husband is currently in Camp Hill hopefully just waiting to be transferred to his home jail.
Thanks for the info on the commisary lists I think it will be a big help.

I love Jpay. You may pay a little more than a money order but it is in their account either that day or the next depending on when you do the transaction.

When I attempted to open the PDF list for Graterford I got a message informing me that I do not have sufficient privileges to do so. Can someone please explain this to me?

Thanks.

Hello, I also tried to access the Graterfords Commissary list and was
denied. Someone said it was on the Main doc web site. But I could not find it. Thanks for any help.

The posted Graterford commisary list is probably out of date, due to all the commisary restructuring that is going on. It might give you a rough idea of items and prices, though. I had no trouble clicking on it, but, then, I've been around forever. If someone needs it PMed to them, please let me know.
