If you know the name of his counselor, send the application directly there using the staff mailing address on the Herlong bop web page. If not, mail it directly to the inmate.

Is anyone still reading this thread? My good friend is in Herlong now and says it's crazy there right now. He's in the RDAP program but isn't sure he'll be allowed to finish it or if he'll get the early release either.
If anyone has info on Herlong or the RDAP Program, please let me know.
Thanks

Have you heard from him lately? It seems like everyone where my friend is staying, is being punished...like, not allowed to watch TV or do laundry. He even said they tried to get him to sign papers admitting to doing something wrong, which he said wasn't true at all.
Is that common?

We email all day long. I have heard from him today. But ya I can see them doing something like that. They like to threaten people. They did the same thing with my husband. Threatened to send him to the hole. Herlong really is a different place. It’s the only one I’ve been to but I don’t like it. My husband hates it. I think he only stays there for me.

I feel like a lot of things that go down there, and other places too I'm sure, are so illegal and we should be able to do something about it...should be able to help since we're out here.
I told him to email his lawyer....I don't know the protocol for this kind of stuff...

You know my husband says that unless they have a bunch of people to say something then it won’t help. If it’s just one person it’s pointless.

Hi, CAC. Not reading while it`s asleep, but subscribed for a wake-up when ever it sees activity. My brother is at the Herlong satellite camp, though that`s really a different world despite being just a quarter mile away, so I have not heard about any kind of whip cracking going on. Doesn't surprise me, though.

Are you sure your friend is in RDAP currently, or maybe getting ready to transfer to another place in order to do the program? Seems a little odd to me because they transfered my brother from Herlong to Oregon last year specifically for the RDAP program up there, just came back a couple months ago.

Anyway, good luck to you and I hope you get your goodnight email okay tomorrow.

EDIT: Whoops, it`s LAOROSE who is missing her goodnight email. Well, I hope she gets it on time tomorrow and hope that CAC`s friend finds things cool down soon.

Checking out again, Herlong. My brother transferred to a halfway house a couple weeks ago and got a job as a host in a chain restaurant, looking good. His sentence is up in October, and we are all hoping that THIS time he makes it stick. Hang tight, all!

It's Oct 15, 2018--my husband has been in FCI Herlong in California for a few weeks now and he needs some help getting a job..he says everyone seems so busy and he doesn't want to interrupt or be rude by asking anyone for assistance in how to do so...can someone (if you've been there yourself, or have family members in there) help me so I can tell him how to go about getting a job in there...also does anyone know about the RDAP program and how you can qualify for halfway house...his release date is October of 2019. Thanks.

Welcome to Prison Talk and to the federal forums. His best chance to get a job that he wants is by word of mouth. It requires the CO in charge of any detail to hire him, so he can ask around about jobs that interest him, with inmates first, but eventually by asking the CO for a job. If he doesn't find one on his own, his unit team counselor will eventually assign him a job, usually in the kitchen or as a custodian.

Here's the bop's RDAP program statement,
https://www.bop.gov/policy/progstat/5330_011.pdf

It requires any documented substance abuse problem within the 12 months prior to his crime (in the presentence investigation report is best). He tells his unit team that he wants to do RDAP, and he will eventually be told two things; if he is eligible for the program, and if he is eligible to earn additional time off of his sentence for successfully completing it.

Half way house and/or home confinement at the end of his sentence will be decided by his unit team case manager. One possible result of completing RDAP is extra HWH time.

Welcome to Prison Talk and to the federal forums. Information usually has to come from the inmates, not from the bop staff. I hope someone who knows about this lockdown will post here, and that you hear from him soon.

Unhappy Hopefully!

Oops, I meant “Herlong, CA” lol Anyway...I’m new to this site but it seems very informative and supportive...so I figured I’d join! Its really weird that I haven’t received a letter from him letting me know what’s going on, because when something like this happens, he’ll usually write me right away because he knows I freak out! So I was hoping that maybe someone else on here had heard something from their loved ones regarding this. All he said was that someone beat up a CO and that they were going on lockdown and he’d call me as soon as they let them out...that was last Saturday.
Thank you...I hope so too; it’s been killing me!

Default FPC Herlong Questions

I have a friend about to go to Herlong Camp and have a few questions.

What is the commissary limit per week?

He did 7 years at Sheridan and while there had a mp3 player and bought songs. Would he be able to access the songs he purchased while in Sheridan at Herlong. He was released from Sheridan in 2015 and just went back into the system in December, still in County jail getting sentenced the 23rd of this month then will be headed to Herlong most likely as Sheridan Camp is full.

My son is there until... November 19, 2019. He did say they can loose good time for disagreeing with the staff. Idk how much commissary limit is, but my son did say they feed them well, coming from Seatac from Alaska. Still there are customary mandatory unwritten charges, and it sounds pretty corrupt, but maybe that is simply because we are not prison people... His first and last tour of the BOP, i hope.

Can anyone give me some information on Herlong? What’s the staff like? How’s the prison run? Is it relaxed or more of an active yard? Any information will be helpful! Thank you!
