Default Ion Spectrometry

On Oct. 1, 2009 Green Rock Correctional Center will begin using an Ion Spectrometry device to test for drugs. All individuals, inside or attempting to enter a DOC facility are subject to testing. the Ion Spectrometry testing may be conducted on all persons entering the facility, a random sampling of persons entering the facility, or based on reasonable belief that the person may have had contact with illegal substances. A confirmed positive test on one person in a group (i.e. persons who arrived in the same vehicle or are visiting the same offender) seeking to enter the facility constitutes reasonable belief that every one in that group should receive Ion Spectrometry testing prior to entering the facility.

This is the first paragraph of a memo sent to me. It was posted on the bulletin boards at GROC. It also states that the testing will be done on vehicles as well as persons. If a positive result is obtained, you will have to submit to a strip search, if no contraband is found you will be permitted to visit. If you refuse a strip search you will not be permitted to visit and must leave facility grounds immediately.

Just thought this information needed to be shared. Please be careful everyone about who you take with you to visiting and what you carry in your vehicle.

everything I read on it is it goes off for other things besides drugs and that you shouldn't even pump gas or open the prison door with your bear hand. I also heard once that money usually has some trace of drugs on it usually. The bad thing is they make sure they put everyone as far from home as possible. So you travel anywhere from three to seven hours from home and then get turned away for something you don't even do. I know how that feels from being turned away because he was sent to the hole and wouldn't let him call and tell me. But at least it was for something one of us actually did and not being sent away because I touched something on that long trip. It would be nice if people that ran things started to thing about what they are doing.

I have read in other state forums that have this to be careful about hand lotion, hand sanitizer, deodorant and certain shampoos and conditioners. Don't use anything after anyone - take in your own pen to sign in. This can be a scary thing if it starts acting up and giving false positives.

Money can have small traces of drugs on it( i read it somewhere will have to look it up), and from what I've read can cause these to go off.
