Unhappy So upset about GTL/MP4 messaging

So, my OH and I have been looking forward to being able to message each other for literally YEARS. There had been talk at getting it in Illinois for a while, but it’s only recently they put the machines for downloading etc, in the prison.

I set up my account etc and have been waiting for him to be able to purchase his device. He finally got it and when I go to send him a message I get a little notice saying “this inmate cannot send messages (can only receive them)”.

Urrrrgh! Well what was the point in all that waiting?? I could send one way messages through JPAY. Was so looking forward to another, quicker way to communicate and it was all for nothing. Might as well just talk through snail mail if I’m not going to get a reply.

Sorry for the rant, just upset

Sorry but I really don't foresee in our lifetime anyway, a way for one to communicate with an inmate that isn't heard or read by the authorities.

@sass Obviously I expected our messages to be read by prison officials - apparently a couple of hours to “process” messages is usual.

I’m surprised you haven’t heard of two way messaging, being a “super moderator” and all.

Lots of prisons have it, pity the one my OH is in doesn’t.

I was gonna say the same thing lol. But any way I would give it time maybe they will start letting them send you messages back. That's the way it is here in Michigan. He send me one and I get it in about 20 minutes and I send him one and he gets it in about the same time. But ours is through jpay

Yeah, they can send a message back that quick.....if they continually check at the kiosk for incoming messages or have their own tablet. But if they're out in the yard, in class, at work, in a line waiting for meds, chow, the kiosk etc its gonna take a while longer.

We couldn't afford his own TV, much less a tablet....plus My Mr worked, went to class/programs, out in the yard. He just had better things to do than wait around to see if I was gonna send a message that day (I usually didn't anyway). Maybe its because we're older, but we're just not into "instant gratification."

I don't think age has anything to do with it my husband will be 48 and I'm fourty. I don't check jpay only when I get notification that he sent me an email. He hooks his tablet up to the machine everytime he sends an email and then right before bed just in case I've left him a message. He would probably do it more but there are over 200 guys in his unit and it's extremely busy.

Well here in VA they can type it on the player but have to sync it to the kiosk to send it. At one point that had it so that couldn't get on the kiosk but only 3 times a day. Now its unlimited. Hopefully in the future things develop.

Before this gets out of hand in quoting the rudeness about my lack of knowledge, I'd like to say that I misread/misunderstood the OP. I read it to be sort of like instant messaging or text message. Obviously, I was wrong.

Not all states offer tablets or mp3.

I sure WISH Mississippi doc offered emails. I guess GTL offering 20 minute phone calls for only .78 cents is as good as it gets. Lol
