Default Lifers Paroling from Pelican Bay?

HI Everyone - I was just wondering if anyone had heard of someone serving 25-life actually getting parole from Pelican Bay? The lawyer I've been consulting with told me today his only hope of ever getting out would be to be transferred to another facility. It wasn't very encouraging. Pease someone tell me there's still a chance

Hi and welcome to PTO. If your person is in the SHU at Pelican Bay they only way is to roll over and go to a different mod. Good luck to you

Love Barb

Thank you Barbara, he is in the SHU but is supposed to be going back to general next month I believe. The issue is he is a lifer and I was told that the board will not approve lifers to be paroled out of Pelican Bay period regardless of housing. I'm hoping that in posting here someone has seen a lifer actually get a date and be released from that prison.

He is up for his first parole board hearing in 2 years

not sure about the possibilities of parole but the California dept. of corrections has a new set of rules for getting out of the shu. i know of someone who was in pelican bay that is a lifer and was sent to a different prison for transitioning back into the mainstream. he had been in there for 25 plus years. he did not roll over on anyone either. i think that there are probably a lot of very nervous or even scared inmates that did roll over because of the new rules.

CDC is changing alot of procedures and alot are in fact getting released from SHU "without" rolling over. I was just recently told someone in SHU who had a life sentence just got sent home because of the new change in the law about the 3strikes so anything is possible. Don't give up hope!!

Thank you all for the responses. I'm not giving up and as long as there is a chance he could come home someday I am waiting for him. I'm aware of the new 3 striker laws and wish that applied here but it doesn't. This was a murder 1 and burglary charge. He was very young and under the influence with 3 other codefendents. I pray every day that he'll get out and get another chance to live a different life. As a reformed felon myself I know first hand that people really can change. I'm a single mom who has worked off and on for human services in the non-profit sector for the past 10 years - a far cry from the drug dealer I was in 2003

I'm hoping this is the case. My husband is up there in PB SHU and he has a 25 - life sentance under the "three Strikes" but his third strike was a drug deal with no violence involved - he simply got busted.

I know guys are paroled directly from SHU as I've talked to a couple of them - but they got out as their sentance was up. They didn't go to mainline before parole they just came right out of SHU and they had been there for a while too - that would be a big adjustment for sure.

I am by my husband's side regardless of if he gets out or has to stay in - it would be good for him to get out of course, my main driving factor is not for me or for him but so he will be able to pursue seeing his children again. Currently the Mom's family do not allow them to visit or contact him in any way.

Yes please keep hope. My daughter's dad is a 25 to lifer also, he has worked his way down from a level 4 to a level 2 he is in CMC San Luis Obispo and he has been down for 31 years. We all prayed and sent letters to the Board of parole for him and he did a murder as well, but he went to his hearing at the end of Feb at well he just got word he has a DATE Now it's not until 2017 but after all these years WE all know anything is possible. So yes keep your head up high cause it can happen. Praise God.

That is great news! I'm so happy for all of you. We are trying to explore different options for transfer now because it seems another facility is our best bet. It's hard because most transfer to Pelican Bay not out of it. He was sent straight there from county jail in 2001 and has never been in a different prison. My fingers and toes are all crossed and I'm praying every day.

I have been reviewing the parole hearings schedules. It looks like the number of guys going before board is up a little at Pelican Bay (maybe just for June/July?). I'm hoping this is a good sign that more will start actually being paroled directly from there

Welcome Back!

It has been many years..... things are starting to change in the SHU.
G was mainlined without rolling, and there are others that got out too.
Never giving up hope, and knowing the state can mp longer afford it
helps too.

thanks to the hard efforts of those who stuck diligently with the hunger strike, there is a LOT of prisoners being released from SHU straight to the mainline.
