money orders are usually a dollar (depending on how much you send) Jpay usually runs about 10 dollars just to send 100. I am not sure how much your money orders cost but I don't think Jpay is cheaper at all. The ability to know when he has received it is a good service they have but that's about it.

yes you are right that money orders are a lot cheaper, but once in a while when the hubby over spends or needs the money right away I use western union, and I think jpay is cheaper then western union is what I was saying...

BETS, in iowa they have the corrlinks set up I dont think that jpay is available for iowa prisons

I love Jpay. It's so easy. It did charge me $3 to send $20 the other day. Just thought I'd share.

From what I read it all depends on the amount you send at the time as to which one is cheaper. For smaller amounts Jpay is cheaper. For larger amounts western union is cheaper. I stick with western union because I'm familiar with it and for the amounts I send, which is usually $30 at a time, western union is either the same price or cheaper @ like 3.95 and about the break down yes a money order is cheaper but consider you have to buy an envelope, a money order, then run to the store (gas) so really is it more expensive? Another thing to consider is that I have had issues with delays in him receiving things in a timely fashion (the mail or the prison?) so to me the western union is instant and guaranteed to be there and if I'm going to be sending a chunk of money, I like that service.

I like Western Union for those same reasons. Also, WU is posted to inmate accounts 3 times a day, whereas JPay is once a day. So when you want your money to get there fast, WU is really the way to go.

I'm very new to this whole process. I see Western union had been mentioned as fastest way to send money to your LO. What information do I need to know in order to do that?

If you have a smart phone you can download the western union app and send money through your smart phone. You need his name first and last title Iowa Dept of Corrections, and his prison number. I do it every Friday morning he gets it that afternoon. If you don't have a smart phone you can go to Walgreens or Hyvee they are Western union distribution center. You fill out a form with his name first and last and prison number and Iowa Dept of Corrections on the machine Hyvee customer service will help you send it, again they receive it that day quickly. I one time tried jpay to try something different also through my phone, he didn't receive it for almost 2 days I was freaking out because I sent 100.00 dollar's.
