Default Need info about The Shu please

Please move my thread if it is in the wrong place.

I was wondering if anyone had any information regarding the shu? Are inmates allowed mail? What if they are on disciplinary and can't make calls? Can they receive mail?

My loved one told me not to miss his court date on the 22nd. I assured him I would not. I contacted the jail and the courthouse. The jail says they don't have access to that information and the courthouse claims he doesn't have a trial scheduled at all? Why is he telling me Friday for court if there's no record of it? and with him being in the shu, I can't communicate with him on the subject. This is so frustrating. I am very angry that he got himself into this mess but I want to be supportive. Do I just not do anything? Or should I call and ask about the court date again? Even so, with him being in the shu. Id like to write him letters if nothing else. I can only imagine how lonely it must be in there for inmates..

Hi there inmates are normally allowed mail in the SHU they can receive and send letters. However letters will be scrutinized so they may take longer than normal. Normally phone calls are restricted.

Not all court dates are a trial setting...asking questions about docket activity can require precise requests for information.

As to "SHU" guidelines, much will depend on the agency in question as to what privileges they retain. However, incoming and outgoing first class mail can generally NOT be restricted.

So do you recommend I call again and ask about docket information? Who do I call? The court house or the jail? I do not wanna miss anything he has coming up but it's a pain in the rear being told nothing and not being able to communicate with my inmate due to this SHU situation. I plan on calling the jail tomorrow regarding any restrictions on SHU inmates and mail.

The jail personnel have no information about docketing aside from whatever list they get for who to pull that morning for docket call. They are SOLELY responsible for transportation.

Some jurisdictions have their case information viewable online. His attorney may also be able to advise as to docket settings. The parole violation is NOT, however, something that will likely be in any court docket...so you would have to go through whichever agency handles those revocations in the jurisdiction to determine when a hearing will be conducted.

Well I called this morning and they are still saying there's nothing. I gotta go down to the courthouse tomorrow to pay a traffic ticket anyways so I plan on checking one more time like the annoying person I am. Lol. As for mail, the jail told me he still can receive mail so I will continue to write until this SHU situation is dealt with even if he can't write back.
