Default Anyone have any experience with LaRue County?

I've had a ridiculously crazy day that started with a 7 am phone call from VINE stating my boyfriend, who isn't even eligible for parole until October, was released and his name disappearing from Jailtracker. When I called the jail they told me he wasn't released and was still there... I finally found out he was transferred and not released at 9 pm tonight! He is now at LaRue County Detention Center and hasn't even gotten to call his mother or myself yet due to being booked in so late (I'm guessing, their website says lights out is at 10pm and it is now 10:30). Anything anyone can share about what to expect while he's there?

I'm not familiar with LaRue County other than I know that's a very rural area....and not too far from me, but My Mr has never been there. Maybe sass4221 knows a little something about them.

I'm sorry but no, I don't know anything about that one. I suppose that could be considered good news since we haven't had any complaints from there.

I guess I will be glad there haven't been a bunch of complaints and try to update as I learn in case someone else needs it later. If anyone does have helpful information please share So far I've learned their website says to call to schedule visits but no one answers when I call... maybe I'll have better luck Monday.

My son is in LaRue County jail. They are having problems right now with their staff. Two co'so were fired and another quit. They also had a death of a co last week. This may be why you can't reach anyone. Understaffed.
If you visit, you park at the side entrance and walk to the back of the building. The visits are behind glass and in a very small room. It's a small County jail.

Thanks for the information! I did finally get through and have scheduled a visit for this Sunday!! So your hints on where to go are definitely appreciated. This will be the first time I've seen him in a month. I wish he was closer but there are places that are even farther away so I'm trying to stay positive. It's just really hard to stay positive when you think they're lost in the system and then when you know where they are no one will answer your calls.

Sadly VINE is what told me he'd been released when he had not but I have signed back up now that he is showing in the system again.

Update: Larue County houses County,State, and Federal inmates and each type seems to have their own rules. For state inmates (because that's what I'm dealing with) they can have a 30 minute visit on Wednesday OR an hour long visit on Sunday, but either way you have to preschedule the visit at least one day before Monday through Friday. State inmates can have work clothes and an MP3 player (think iPod shuffle, because they can't have it if it has a camera or anything) dropped off or mailed to the jail but they only receive that property on the first Thursday of the month. I can not send him actual letters or cards-- post cards only
I thought it would be good to document this for the next person searching for answers and I wanted to complain for a minute. I left pants and an iPod for him last Sunday when I went to visit. They told me he couldn't have it until the first Thursday of the month but luckily that was this past Thursday so it was only supposed to take a couple days. It's now the next Monday and he's received his pants but not the iPod and so far everyone at the jail just keeps telling me it's not their problem or their area. I was asked questions about who I left it with and apparently that person is off today and tomorrow (they were at work on a Sunday) and they've asked that I call back Thursday after they can talk to the person I left it with... I'm always torn between being afraid to rock the boat and cause problems for him and wanting to fight for him and what little happiness he could have had from the music.

Postal pre-stamped post cards? We had to do that at a couple of county jails...and let me tell ya! These little, small town post offices don't always have them

I actually didn't know that was a thing... they just told me postcards.... now I'm hoping he got the postcard I sent
I learn something everyday and I'd say my little town's post office doesn't carry those

I pray my son gets out of this jail soon. It's horrible. The only way to leave to get classified is by doing something against the rules and it has to be major. They shipped guys out today who were all in the hole and there's a drug problem. Just what a family member wants to know. Co bringing in drugs....ugh.

Jake still hasn't gotten the iPod we left over a month ago. While I was there to visit (I did get a two hour visit, that part was nice) I asked if I could just take it home since he didn't have it anyways. The lady made it sound like they were busy with shift change so I offered to come back after my friend and I went to eat...and all she said was she couldn't guarantee when they'd get time. We came back over an hour later and another woman tells me she doesn't know who I talked to but there was no way for me to get anything out of his property because of the day of the week it was?!?! You had said they were short staffed but they apparently have NO standardization and he had also told me the drug stories but says he wants no part of it. I pray he's honest on that end. Jake should be out very soon on parole but I sincerely hope for you that they move your son soon. You're in my prayers.

Would it help or hurt to write a letter to DOC about Larue County jail? I get the impression that no one really gives a shit about what happens in that jail. I'm not one to believe everything I'm being told but when I look it up on their local news stations and it matches up to what my son is saying, it's making me sick.

It won't hurt at all. Make sure your letter (and envelope) are to Jail Services Specialist. That's the person over all county jails that house state inmates.
