Default Time of day of release and release if prison is on lockdown

If a release date is given, could the inmate be released prior to or after that date? What time of day do inmates get released? What happens to their personal property? If the prison happens to be on lockdown, will the inmate still be released?

Good morning, While I do not have exact answers for you I can tell you this based on the prison I work at.

A prison being on lockdown has no bearing on releases. People will still be released on their dates.

We release our guys early in the morning, around 8-9am

Personal property is returned to the inmate and they are allowed to take anything they bought in prison out with them. They also have the option of mailing anything out, usually at their expense.

Inmates will not be released AFTER their scheduled date. They might be released a day or two early, for us this usually happens because of a weekend. We don't release someone on a Saturday or Sunday so we release on Friday instead. Most of our releases are still on probation, so it is not hard to "work the numbers" and give them an extra day or two on probation vs prison time.

Inmates can stay after their scheduled release date....especially if they are pending new charges. Unless it is something serious we generally dismiss minor infractions that are pending that way we don't slow down the release.

Best advice is to contact your prison and they can give you more precise answers.

I would only add that the State prisons can't release anyone before the date established by the Pa. Board of Probation & Parole. For that reason, the PBPP never sets the date on a weekend or state holiday.

Many inmates choose to give other inmates certain items before release (hot pots, writing supplies, etc). TVs, and I'm guessing other electronics, are explicitly forbidden from given to another inmate and MUST be taken home. At least here in KY anyway. At one point we had 2 (two) 13" clear plastic TV's
