Federal inmates get 300 minutes per month....how many minutes you have on your phone isn't relevant to the BOP. When the inmates 300 minutes are up, that's all they get until the next month.

I looked to see what this is... do all federal prisons allow it? Is this anything like Google Voice where you have to find out if the specific prison allows it? Once my hubby is sentenced and given his destination I would like to have this set up as soon as I possibly can so we can check it off the list of things to do.

Just because the fedlocal "allows" it, doesn't mean that BOP does too. Actually, fedlocal is a call forward service....that means it is not allowed per BOP policy (or any state's DOC either).

Call forwarding is not allowed and when discovered, your calls will be blocked & your loved may have consequences as well.

Yes they do....and other people often have their calls blocked. And other people's loved ones lose phone privileges, and/or worse. If you don't mind taking a chance on being part of "other people," go for it. Personally, I'd rather not risk it.

If you get, or have a cell phone that is assigned a local number to a prison (area code and prefix) that is allowed by the bop. It is not call forwarding since the phone that is called is the one that rings.

Question-
My cell phone is local to the prison. ( Both have same area code)
Can my inmate call me on my cell phone ( he has money on his account)?
English isn't my first language so please be patient with me. I'm trying my best to communicate but am not perfect. Thank you

If he is a New Jersey state inmate, no. NJ DOC does not allow inmate calls to cell phones at this time. Hopefully that will change in the future.

EDIT / Correction: Sidebiotch, your inmate is Federal, not NJ state....so, YES, your inmate can call your cell phone

Thanks I'm new so forgot to mention mine was federal and not local.
He's called me successfully since I posted that question. Luckily my number is local to ft Dix so I don't have to worry about any issue like others.
He couldn't call right away though. I had to wait for a little while because they said he needed to meet with counselor first like orientation or something. But that is done with now and my inmate is fine. Thank you

Thank you. I am trying my best and read before posting so I don't aggravate anyone reading my posts. Before I found this forum, I signed up for another and they yelled at me for not being clear. I found here so I just deleted my account there anyway. Thanks
