Default Members Shared Elmira Reception Information

My boyfriend was sentenced to 1-3 years, and had already served 5 months before the actual sentencing. He was sent to Elmira for reception, and was told he would be there 2-5 weeks. Well, this put him right through Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I figured he would be there the whole time, but now he is in week #8!!! He is supposed to be at a medium security prison, and of course Elmira is a maximum. His early release date is in May 2004.
Could they keep him in Reception until then????

As far as I know they can keep him there until they find a place to put him. My guy was in elmira reception for 3 weeks I think, and he is now in a medium.

Default Reception question

Once he gets to reception for a state bid can someone tell me can we write letters right away? Or do we have to wait? I know the visits will be on hold for a week or two. I will be bringing his teenage son to visit him once he is at a state facility. Can someone please tell me what kind of documentation I will need for the visits. Thanks

You will need teenage son's birth certificate if under 18; also, it's best to call facility beforehand & search forum for dress code.

For yourself, you can use your drivers license or non- drivers Id. and like quietstorm stated, you will need the son's birth certificate, but if he has a license of course he can use that. I am not sure if he is your son as well, but if he is not, then you will need a notarized letter from his legal gaurdian giving you permission to take him into a prison for a visit with his dad.

I wrote letters right away and he got them, oh and before you go for a visit call and see if he's allowed a visit.

Ok this seems to be a new problem... Luv2Luv was having this same problem with her man at a different facility and i dont think anyone knew what to do. Because the cigarettes have to have the NYS stamp on them so you'd have to find a store i think that will send them out right from the store. In the sticky thread about Vendors or Package Items we tried figuring this out and im not sure Luv2Luv resolved he issue.. give her a PM n see!!! GOOD LUCK

Default Question about food package to Elmira

Sorry for all of these questions. Last week I went to Elmira to Wegmans and bought him over $100 worth of stuff. He didn't get it Saturday becasue I did the shopping Thursday. The package has to be to the facility by Wed. from what he heard.
I put 5 cans in the package, he told me today during our visit that he can't have cans. Does anyone know if this is true? If he can't have it will the send the whole package back? Or will the guards just take what they can't have?

That is a good question about cans and I wish I knew the answer. Hopefully someone comes along soon to answer your question.

I am not sure about reception but when Jason was in Elmira I used to send him stuff from Wegmans also. It never had to be there on a certain day but Wegman's would take their time getting it there. Maybe he needs it there by Wednesday because they are going to move him again if he's only in reception. I know they can have cans but nothing over like 20 ounces. Usually the guards just keep what is over or not allowed - I have never had them send an entire package back. It's hard I know because you are spending so much money on the packages just so he can eat and then they don't give him half of it. I have lost plenty of food packages over the last couple of years - believe me. The best thing to do is call the facility and ask to speak to the package room when you get the operator/receptionist. They were usually pretty good at answering all my questions when I called. I'm going by when Jason was there about a year ago but he was not in reception.

all I know is, I bring cans of tobacco (to Coxsackie) on a regular basis and it has never been a problem. There must be a DOC directive out there somewhere on the whole tobacco question, right?

Exclamation Elmira Reception Info.

I have read the visiting info ect of elmira but I would like to know the atmosphere there for the inmates.

My fiance just got moved from county to elmira, I believe he is in reception.

he has a 1 1/3 to 4 year sentence for a probation violation of an s/o class E crime. I was also just wondering if anyone has any idea where they might move him to. I know one place his co-called lawyer mentioned because of the s/o is livinstone

then he is in reception. you can visit anytime while he is in reception, be sure to get there before 10 am or else you'll have to wait til 12 noon or 1 pm to visit. If you visit during the week you can visit in the regular visiting room its nice and big, on the weekends you visit in the reception visiting room not nice at all. You get to sit at regular tables and get food and sodas from the vending machines... you can even have your pics taken in the regular visiting room. wear clothes that are NOT sexy and no underwire bra, they may have you take it off and walk through the metal dectors. You'll have to bring a picture ID and another form of ID.

Welcome to PTO...
any other questions please ask.

Since he is in reception there is a chance that at anytime he'll be transferred so I would call them up and ask if he is still there before you go.

I hope I explained clear enough about reception... it depends but he might not be staying at Elmira...it depends on the lenght of his sentence where he will go.
