Default Tomoka Correctional Institution Q&A

I haven't visted Tomoka Correctional Institutions yet I was just approved.

My boyfriend is in PM and his visits are at night 5-8pm. Is there more restrictions for PM visits? I was told the dress code is different for the night visits if true can anyone tell me what it is. Any info will be helpful. Thanks
Joyce

Hello, I have not ever visited this prison but my husband was just moved there. I am curious to know how the night visitation works? I have not ever heard of that before?. If you have a moment, can you tell me what your experience was like at this camp?

Thanks so much!
Mrs. Williams

Default No Open toe shoes at Tomoka

They have a new warden and word came down not to wear sandals, open toe or heal shoes to visit this weekend, also tank tops (not that I ever saw anyone wear them either, but no shoulders showing. They said they will turn people away.

Default Two and a Half Hour Wait at Tomoka

If you didn't visit last week, with the new warden and staff changes, it was a 2 and a half hour wait to get in, everyone sat outside and lined up, people got sick of waiting and left even. It took them like 30 minutes to process 5 visitors at a time, no sh*t???
The computers were not down, the hand scanner was working, the prison was not on lockdown or anything, and yet people stood and waited.
We hope it is better this weekend. People drove hours to get there and then only got a short visit because of this.

Thats a bunch of BS. They cant do that! If you look at Chapter 33 there is nothing saying you cant wear open toed shoes / flip flops. We had a Capt. try that one day and now she is a sargent. Something about it wasnt in the rule book it was a personal rule. Well the DOC uppers do not like personal rules! We have to abide by Chp. 33 and so do they! And I hold them to it! So next time you are given a hard time there just take a name and date / time and then send me a msg. I will get you in touch with the right people who do care and dont want this personal DOC crap going on. Ok, sorry, that is a big soap box for me!

Exclamation Long waits at Tomoka

If you are headed to Tomoka be prepared to WAIT!I went to visit on Thanksgiving Day-arrived 10:15 AM The Two Ladies before me got in just before COUNT.

I waited from 11 AM....while they Counted,Recounted, then had the entire place LOCKED DOWN until about 1:30PM...Then my butt head buddy refused to visit me,without considering I had been there 3 & A Half Hours & would have appreciated even ONE HOUR to visit at that point.

After all that & his refusing to visit me,Don't know if I'll ever bother again.

Tomoka sucks for waits, its horrible most of the time. The inmates say there is one particular guard that takes extra long to check people in and thinks it is funny and also goes and leaves people waiting and goes out in the VP bullshit with other cos, have something to eat, while people are lined up outside. Email the prison and complain to the warden.

Thanks nightbird,I think I will do just that.We did talk & he was really pissed and I also told him they had inmates (who's visits were over with) waiting for hours to go back to their dorms...I think on Christmas I will pitch a tent at 3 AM so I am first in line.

They have actually been getting better about the long wait. They have moved some staff around and it seems to have helped. Catching people with drugs is another indication that the staff is on their toes. Sadly, the lady arrested was a regular visitor that was one of the first ones there every morning.

Question Questions about Tomoka C.I.

My husband is putting his transfer in from Calhoun C.I to Tomoka C.I, I just have a few questions to ask anyone whose loved ones are there...What are the visits like? Are the guards laid back or strict on affection? How long is the wait to get in, and what are the do's and don't of that place?? And once he transfers do I have to reapply for visitation? Or will my info transfer when he does? Please send me a private message and let me know anything helpful or good to know about Tomoka...thank you!

Whitney

The only question I can answer for is about your visitation approval. No matter where he moves your visitation approval moves with him. You don't have to reapply again unless you ever have visitation priviledges taken away.

I know that Tomoka C.I. has the best visits for children, I understand they are pretty lax and they have church ladies come on weekends to do arts and crafts with them.

they are jut like any other prison they start at 8am end at 3pm. you get in line they sign you in they call you five at a time to enter then they check you at the metal detector and then the guard does a check and then you enter the room and give your form to the officer and wait on your visit the guards are sometimes nice and then you have those that are mean. but i enjoy my visit each time i just focu on my fellow. hope this was help.

My Fiance is there...it's not so bad. Never have too many problems on visits...guards can be pretty cool on "good days". ;-)
