Default New to PTO - Visitation denied

I am new to PTO. I am a former employee of a private state jail in Texas. While working at this state jail I ran into a friend that I knew in the free world before I started working there. I did not tell my supervisor and was later fired from my job. After I lost my job I stayed in contact with the inmate I knew. We were married Sept. 19, 2003 by proxy. The Warden has denied my visits and the Director's Review Committee has said I can't even appeal it for 2 years. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do. I love my Travis and I just want to be able to see him.

Thanks
Angie

Angie,

Welcome to PTO!

I was denied visits. I was told that ex-tdc employees could not visit inmates. It was my understanding at the time (1997) that ex-inmates could visit after being released for 6 months. I refused to be treated worse than an ex-inmate.

I had married an inmate 10 months after loosing my job for reasons that had nothing to do with my husband. I fought hard for 20 months to get back on his list. The results were that tdc changed the policy from Never to 24 Months!

By the time myself and others got the policy changed, it had been so long that I got to see my husband the very next week. But, unfortunately, you will have to wait the 24 months. And, know that they are trying to punish both you and your husband. Why else would they agree to 24 months before they got hit with a lawsuit? They could have just said that we could Now visit.

I could refer you to the lady in the ACLU who helped change the policy but she will just refer you back to me as I have agreed to help her out by answering questions for ex-tdc employees that pertain to visitation. I am so sorry, but I know of no way for you to visit until the 24 months from your last day of employment has past. PM if you like. God Bless,

Hi Angie: My dear, believe me you are not alone. I also am a Ex-TDCJ officer and I now have a year and six months done on my time. Lin is right, there is nothing you can do until your 2 years is up. It's hard, it's lonly, and it takes being strong and talking alot to the good Lord above. But if you believe in each other and love each other, you both will make it. Wishing you two the best of luck!!!
