Default Uncle in Dodge Correctional Facility, do they have email?

Hi everyone,

My Uncle Tyre is in the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, WI. Does anyone know if they have access to email in there? It's much easier to communicate with them when you are in another state if they have the option to email. Being a mother of 2 it is hard to write all the time.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Skye

Unless something has changed recently, I don't think they have email at Dodge. Here's a link to the DOC's web page about Dodge which includes info about corresponding. The info sheet was revised in Dec. 2008 and doesn't mention email for inmates. Note that Dodge is WI's intake prison and rules vary tremendously depending on if your uncle is still in A&E (assessment & evaluation) or in GP (general population).

He has been in for a while so I am assuming that he is in GP. I've mailed him a letter since that is likely the only way that I can communicate with him. It just kinda sucks because I have two small children and it is difficult to keep up with writing and is much easier to email since I can type very quickly.

I appreciate your help.

Right now, usually you can only get e-mail from inmates in Medium Security Federal prison.

Rottn, more and more state facilities and county jails (at least in the midwest) are beginning to let family send email to inmates. Partly, it's a cost-cutting measure. Often these email system are one-way and the inmate is still required to send his things by snail mail.

Skye, if you don't have time to compose a big, long letter, try postcards. There's enough room to tell a quick anecdote, make a joke, or remind him he's in your thoughts. I keep a stock-pile of postcards around. You can find inexpensive ones at area attractions or garage sales. I even find free postcards at public kiosks advertising upcoming events and art shows. I make postcards by cutting apart old greeting cards. Occassionally, I print my own postcards.

Also, when you have a spare moment, you might want to go ahead and pre-address several envelopes. That way, you can quickly type up a letter to your uncle, print it, pop it in the envelope, and mail. My family keeps such envelopes stashed in brief cases and in the car. If someone's waiting in line or something, they can dash off a handwritten letter.
