Default Woodbourne and the SHU

Hello everyone, I hope someone out there can help me out with this. My friend just told me that he got in trouble and might be going to the SHU. He is at Woodbourne and I was wondering does Woodbourne have a SHU or will he get moved somewhere else to do his time in the SHU? Also I am not sure if I was misinformed but is it true that when you are in the SHU you can have visitors even on the weekdays?

Woodbourne does have a SHU section, but it is usually only for short term SHU confinement, if there is a lot of time they are transferred to a different facility.

You were misinformed about visiting, many of the general population facilities have SHU visiting hours in the evening, and most will allow only visiting on certain days. The two SHU facilities Upstate and South Port only allow visiting on weekends and holidays.

Your best bet, once you learn where he is confined to SHU is to call that facility and ask about visiting, including hours and days of the week.

You are very welcome.
If we don't share what we know with each other how will any of us learn what is true and what is not?

Woodbourne, being a medium security "terminal" facility does have the ability to keep an inmate on keeplock for 45 days or more, but inmates may still have visits. You would have to sit at the very front table(s) by the CO desk, and leave 15 minutes early.
No one receives mid-week visits. VI is Saturday and Sunday only; A-L one day, M-Z the next. Weekend visits alternate based on last name.
The only exception would be if he placed a formal request for a "special visit" on an "off" week that is opposite his last name's letter...and IF he were granted that favor (oh, and also Federal holidays).

There is a difference between Keep Lock and SHU!

Basically the restrictions are the same, no packages, no phone calls, and only 1 hr rec each day.

Keep Lock is when a prisoner is confined to his own cell and has all his belongings around him, or in the case of a medium it would be cubicle confinement.

SHU is a separate location where the prisoner is confined to a cell and does not have his belongings with him.

In some medium facilities the SHU visiting hours are in the evening so as to keep SHU and gen pop prisoners separated, in others the hrs are the same but you have to visit with him behind plexiglass, and in some others there is no separation between you.

It is best to call the facility and ask what is the visiting process for SHU.
