Hi,
My name is Barry. I live in the Portland area and my girlfriend is currently at Coffee Creek. She has been there for 9 months with about 3 years to go :argh . It seems I'am in the minority around here, Mostly women with Husbands etc. in prison. Maybe I'am wrong... just an observation

Hi Barry!! Welcome!!

It is always good to have a mans point of view. Statistically there are more men incarcerated, and women tend to reach out to each other in support. Whereas most men just buck up and deal with it!

Yes, I do think women tend to reach out a little more. I also think they are much more likely to "stick" with their partner than men are. My girlfriend has people telling her that it's only a matter of time before he dumps you, stuff like that. Alot of it probably comes from seeing that happen in prison. I'am sure there are men who stand by their women in situations like incarceration, but I think women do it at a much higher percentage than the men do.

Hey Barry,

Yeah, our loved ones are told alot of crap while they are inside. All we can do is keep reaffirming our "stick-to-it-tivness"!

I have some other theories (opinions ?) as well, but would rather not post them on a public forum!!

Well, look around PTO and let us know what you think! And I would like to invite you to the Northwest Get Together we are cooking up for June. There is more information on this forum as well as the Washington forum.

Hello my name is Kristin and my husband is in TRCI. He has been there for 38 months. He is there for a measure 11 crime and was sentenced to 90 months with a second look at 45 months. He hopefully will be coming home this fall. We have a little boy named Eli who will be three in July. Eli keeps me very busy. My husband and I were married in fall of 2002 and that has been nice.

Hi all! I live in Vancouver, WA, across the water from Portland. My husband and I have three children and five grandchildren. Our youngest is the one in prison. He is at Stafford Creek in Aberdeen, WA.

I have a master's degree in psychology, and work with adolescents in the justice system.

You guys are ALL just awesome, and I'm so glad to be here!!! My name is Janis, and I live in Gold Hill, Oregon, and work in Grants Pass. My guy is doing LWP in Florida (I haven't checked out the Oregon forum 'cause I'm moving to Florida in a month or so); has been there about 8 years so far. We've known each other since long before all of this, so getting together & staying that way was kind of a decision that made itself, and we're dealing with the situation. I'm 49, have no kids (except the furry or scaly variety); was in law enforcement for over 20 years, and now am an EMT and love it (though it's not as different as I thought it would be). I've lived in Oregon for most of my life, and I know I'll miss it; it's a very VERY special place, with some of the greatest people anywhere. Well, time for work for me. Thank you all for being there, and being so great. Take care & stay safe!

Oooh-- I get it now!! Wuz Fuzz!!! I am a little slow on the uptake!! LOL

Thank you for stopping by and saying Hello! You are welcome to hang out in Oregon anytime! Let us know how the move goes and how it goes once you are in Florida.

I don't think I could ever adjust to living on the east coast. I visited my sister in Virgina once, and just couldn't get my balance from having the ocean being on the wrong side!!

That's hilarious, JJT, 'cause I lived in Maine for a while, and was forever ALMOST going down to the beach to watch the sun go down; oops, directionally challenged again! I spent about 10 years on the east coast while in the Navy, and actually really loved it once I got accustomed to all the differences. Florida will be a real adventure, for sure; haven't spent a lot of time there (except for boot camp), but I hear I can save some money on a backup vehicle if I can just catch one of those "palmetto bugs" and saddle him up!!! Take care & stay safe. Off to work for me.....

Default I'm Cathy from Salem

Hello Everyone - My name is Cathy, and I live in Salem. I work as a Health Care Administrator at a large HMO. I have been reviewing this site for a few weeks, and felt it was time to join in. My ex-husband is at Terminal Island FCI. He was sentenced in Feb. to 33 months for bank robbery (he got $1147). I had been a single parent for 20 years when I met him 4 years ago. Six months after we were married, he robbed the bank. He borrowed my mother's car, and had his 13 year old daughter waiting out in the car while he went into the bank. Nothing was more humiliating than receiving an early morning phone call alerting me to his surveillance photo in the local newspaper, along with a cast of hundreds who recognized him......including the people I work with. I had moved him into a Motel 6 a few days before his picture ran, as his drinking and gambling had totally gotten out of hand, so when I called the FBI to turn him in, they did not have to come to my house to arrest him. They were very nice to me, and felt his gesture was a cry for help.

I would not allow him to come home to await sentencing, so he was placed in a half-way house in Sherwood. He was angry at me, so he wouldn't participate in the marriage and later refused to see me. He maintained that I threw him out for no good reason - totally into denial and having no accountability for what he had done. As a result, our relationship deteriorated. He and his attorney were expecting him to get probation, so his attitude remained nasty. I filed for divorce in Jan, and he was shocked, because I think he was done punishing me and figured he'd need a place to come to WHEN he was sentenced to probation. Our divorce was final in 7 bus. days, which was also a shock to him.....there is a God!

I had no contact with him after Jan. 17th. I went to the Federal Courthouse in Portland in April to read his file, so I could see what his sentence was. 33 months in an FCI, and the Judge recommended Sheridan. For some reason, he was sent first to Taft, and as of 7/6, he was transferred to Terminal Island FCI in Calif.

I recently wrote him a letter, and yesterday, I received a reply from him. It sounds like his anger is gone, and he said the incarceration has turned into a blessing for him. He has had a lot of time to reflect and grow closer to God, who he has been running from. He will have about 2 more years to perfect this.

I kept feeling that what I was living was not my life. It has been very painful hearing criticism and advice from family and friends. I know they meant well, but inside my heart was so broken - their remarks only made it worse. They said I should dump him, and that I had made a mistake in marrying him.

I was surfing the web one night and came upon this site. The information here has answered so many of my questions, and everyone seems to be so compassionate and understanding. Until I heard from him yesterday, I felt that I didn't really need to introduce myself......however, I now feel like I might be back into this for the long haul. I did not divorce him because I didn't love him - I divorced him so God could deal with him. So, with that said, here I am!
