Hmmm. Tongue ring was okay but naval ring not, interesting. Was your naval ring and tongue ring different metals? I should just call visiting and ask them directly but I'm sure they'll just give me some generic answer. Well, we'll see I guess then. And I'll update everyone when it happens and then we'll know!

Here is the deal... when you have several people with piercings etc...trying to get through 3 times... well you hold up everyone and it cuts into the visiting time! I take it all off and put it back on later..... unless you want a shorter visit...

I understand you, trust me, it pisses me off too when I'm waiting and the same person is being checked over and over. I'm not one of those ladies and I don't plan to be.

Surgical stainless steel might/might not set off an alarm depending on how sensitive it is. Since this is a nostril piercing, if it is a stud it's probably SS. Try to see if you can find one made from Titanium, niobium, or bio-flex (a medical grade plastic usually used in stitches). Most stores such as, hot topic, spencers, and several piercing studios will only have sterling silver or SS studs.
I've gone through police metal detectors and passed with Titanium and my bio-flex retainers.
Good luck!

I was not checked over and over again. The tongue ring was stainless steel but i didn't want to chance it with the navel ring so i took it off and didn't put it back on until left PB. I had no problems with it. Just be careful with your bras and make sure they're not underwire. I enjoyed my visit. My man will be home 8/12/12 so it's over for me and i'm happy because it's such a stressful thing to deal with.

Thank you for not being one of those people.... Congratulations on the release, it is coming soon. It is nice to see people come here and then move on, that is what it should be about. Now you can move to the forums, Now He is Out... Yes there will be challenges, and it will sometimes take the dedication you had to make all those visits! Your countdown is on!!!

Good luck with your husband coming home. I truly wish you happiness, I know how hard it is to go through all of this and deal with so much. I'm happy for you!

The extra visiting day for 4th July will be on Friday July 6th. I spoke with the visiting sargent this last weekend when I was there and asked about Christmas & New Years - he said the extra visiting days will be on the "Eves" so that will be Mon 12/24 & Mon 12/31.

I beleive there is an extra day for labor day but I didn't ask about that one.

The extra day for Thanksgiving is usually the Friday after Thanksgiving - Black Friday (shopping Day!!!)

Hope this helps.

Default SHU visits to be extended?

All,

I love to be the bearer of good news, so I wanted to share this right away.

I just today received a letter from my man, up in PB SHU. Here's the exact words from his letter:

"We were given a memo saying that our visit (everybody in general) would be extended if the next group ain't filling up all the next slots. We're still not sure how all this is supposed to work. They did say that we should be able to get our 1 & 1/2 or 2 hour visit though. They are also talking about a new program so we could get out of here (SHU). They still haven't shown us the new proposal. So there's a few other stuff, like canteen and package stuff, but everything is really based on the budget in July, so I'll keep you posted."

Always hopeful!

(My man is in D-6)

Holy cow!
Good news for a change?
I hope and pray that this is true and you guys get a break!
Even better if all Claifornia shu inmates get a break :-)
Those one hour window visits are just so short.

Are we allowed to wear white pants for visiting? I have a pair of white capris that I would pair with a black shirt for visit (if they ever get off of lockdown) but I wasn't sure if it's allowed. Does anyone know if that would be okay?

There were quite a few people wearing white pants/capris when I went to visit a couple of weeks ago...just be sure they don't have the little metal buttons/rivets on them, one lady was pulling those off her pants and throwing them away trying to get thru the metal detector.

Thumbs up Great News!!

I recently saw my guy at PB SHU on the 9th and 10th. The visits are truley not long enough! This is great news and I hope we see this change soon! My man also mentioned that they are starting to see some changes, like with canteen items, etc. He also said that some of their meal portions are looking a little more generous lately.

Always looking for the bright side!

(My guy is in C-8, and my step-father-in-law is in D-1)

Question Watch out!!

On my recent visit to PB, I was told by the kind volunteer driver for the Friends Outside shuttle that some Crescent City taxi drivers have been pretending to be with Friends Outside and offering rides to the prison. They are charging people for this. He asked that I mention to you all that you should ONLY get into a white van with their logo on it and to call to book your ride the week before your visit.

For those who don't know, Friends Outside offers a free shuttle service from your hotel/home to and from Pelican Bay. Their # is 707-465-6269

On the bright side,
Lisa

Back in like 2005 they did extended visits for people who drove a certain amount if miles and didn't come often at pbsp shu. U guys should mention it to ur inmate family counsel to see if they can do that again
