Hello, I am completely new to this. my quiestion regarding phone call is the following:
I DO NOT HAVE A HOUSE PHONE, HOW CAN I SET UP CALLS FROM CENTINELA SP TO MY PERSONAL MOBILE PHONE. (WHAT SERVICE SHOULD I USE? WHAT'S THE COST? ETC...) I WOULD HIGHLY APPRECIATE THE ASSISTANCE!

I posted the link to Global Tel Advance pay. You can use your cell phone number. I live 200 miles from CEN and my calls are about 2$ for 15mins.

I recently changed my cell phone number, but changed info on GTL account. My man tried to call last week and said he called cell several times, but call didn't go through. He finally called house phone. Called GTL, but they said they did not see an attempt to call cell phone number. They mentioned cell phone # being on the inmate's call list?? I didn't think that was required here, or is it?? Or maybe I just wrote it wrong in letter....This is so frustrating especially after waiting so long to get calls again.

Hey y'all. My love will be transferring to Centinela in the next week or so. I have no clue as to how they're phone privileges work there. We are MWI and throughout our whole time together he has been housed at Avenal so I'm just looking to get some info thanks

My man calls me at least once a week. Said there are only 4 phones for 200 guys in his building. He has to sign up the day before, but the guys with jobs come first. Said it's hard to get on that damn phone. Sometimes he gets his celly's phone time.

Well I'm definitely going to have to get used to that. Throughout our entire stay together at Avenal I got a minimum of 3 calls per day. The maximum would vary but average about 7-8 calls per day. Being housed at a Prison that is located 451 miles from San Diego visits were few and far between. Last time I was able to kiss or hold him was June 28, 2014. It will be a year tomorrow. So the phone was our lifeline. But now he is at Centinela. Just a lil over 130 miles away...1 1/2 hours...going to be so awesome!!!

You set up an account on gtl, hopefully he has a job in there. They get the phones mostly. Phone calls aren't frequent :/ letters are the best communication

Hi, how much does it cost to set up the account? Do they charge by the minute and if so how long are people allowed to stay on the phone?

I just went to the GTL site and couldn't see where to sign up

Default One phone call a month?

My LO just transferred and he called me last week and had told me he can only get 1 call a month unless he has a job. Can someone shead some light on this subject for me please! I don't know much about this prison at all.

I had a female penpal that was in a similar situation. I believe she told me that she didn't get ANY phone calls unless she was working.

I had the impression that it was specific to being in "reception" and that it would be different when she transferred to general population. After about 5 months she was transferred to another facility so I never got to find out.

I know that the rules will also vary depending upon his security level.

Even if he wants to work it might be a while before he gets a job. So your best bet is to send letters.

You can also send him stationary supplies through the mail: postage stamps, paper and envelopes. I believe the limit is two books of stamps 40 envelopes and 200 sheets of paper.

I believe that there is also a 1 pound limit on the weight of the envelope, so don't try sending all that at once.

Good luck

R. Mc.

In Tehachapi it is the same. If they do not have a job they have limited amounts of phone calls. I believe my boyfriend was telling me something like the first on the month, the first couple of days is saved for the people that do not have jobs. I would contact the prison or look up their regulations and policies if you would like to know more.

As far as I remember it depends on his privilege group. Once he gets a job (or goes to school, but not so sure about this) he will be allowed one 15 minutes call a day. He’ll need to sign up in advance for each call. Phone time is cancelled when they shut down program. Hang in there!

My friend just went through classification at CEN after being transferred from the SHU at Pelican Bay. His GED hasn't been verified yet so he is in a GED class and can't get a job until the GED thing is worked out...

BUT he's been able to call me any day of the week for a 15 min phone call.

We just talked yesterday and he will be calling again on Friday. We have the pre-pay set up.

He is in the C yard and has some restrictions for his first year there.

Hope that helps!

It all depends if they are on group a/b or c status also if they have a job they are able to call a lot more often. I get about 2-3 15 min calls per day from Monday through Sunday unless they don't run program.
