I don't know about Mendez but people cancel appointments all week. I've randomly got one a couple days before I wanted to go. I also won't take one that's before 10:30 because I'm driving 4 hours and can't function that early, lol. Also, if you just show up at 10:30 you just wait outside under that covered spot until they come to get you. That's where the non appointment people wait. You will still have a few hours to visit.
Maybe someone else has some experience with Mendez?

Mind you I haven't seen his face in 3 years. It took me a year to locate him, then he was in reception for 10 months and now finally here and when he got to KVSP they were on lock down FOREVER. Anyway, I called the visitng line and spoke to Officer Mendez. I asked him how can I get an appt. he asked me who I was, have I ever visited, where I live, etc. and then said just come in on Sunday at 8AM and you will get a visit...he said just mention you spoke to me or find me and remind him that we spoke on Valentines Day and he'll get me in my visit but I have to be there by 8 AM! So does this sound legit? Im making a 2.5 hour drive and that's a lot of gas! haha

You can book your appointment through VPass up to two weeks in advance. Appointments start on Sunday at 8:00pm and trust me they go fast. Once the dates are available they have been booked 30 minutes later. So they go fast, fast, fast

For example if you wanted to go on

Saturday 3/2/13
VPass had the date available Sunday 2/17 at 8:00pm

If you wanted to go on
Sunday 3/3/13
VPass had the date available Monday 2/18 at 8:00am

Needless to say they may not have any more available appointments today. But you may still have the option to call and through out the week you can check back to see if something came up. I couldnít make it one weekend at the last minute and canceled my appointment to make it available to someone else. Hope this help a little. Mendez is the guy that checks us in, he is really cool so it might be legit but he may forget and it is a 2.5 hour drive. At worst youíll be the first in line for the 10:30 non appointments, so you may still have a chance to see him. This weekend there was still a lot of room after 10:30 for the non appts. and I've not had my visit cut short since they started the VPass because they were overfilled

Mendez is a cool guy! Supper nice out of all of them. She's right ^^^ you may have a chance! Get there, ask for him and if he doesn't remember be the first in line for non-appointments. You'll still get in!

And no more appointments!!! For 03/03!!! Wa wa wa ;(

I was there this Sunday, Checking in was redicules this time because to make things as simple as I can I take Black jeans and the top I was wearing was grey. Now it was loose around the waist but a little sung around the boobbies but that was about the same as almost every one going in but according to the CO my jeans and top were to form fitting..... Jeans I've taken many many times, well he made me chance my top and at least didn't push it on my jeans. In my yard as soon as I got in the CO, he made a point of making sure I understode the one kiss at start and end and only holding hands and that they are kicking people out that are not following the rules, and told me they were making sure the guys were being told the same thing right before they came out. He was cool about it and at the end of the day he's doing his job but they are following the rules to the T.. I had an amazing visit and was grateful that I was with him. It's like they say appreciate what you have and not suffer for what you don't..

Thanks for the info. Sounds just like the last time I visited. I wore black jeans, the same ones I've worn before ( AND I had lost several pounds) and had to go to the stupid trailer. I'm wearing sweats from now on just to save the hassle.

Still no hoods I take it?

No hoods, and I did see a lot more people with baggie sweats. Neeless to say if you don't want to go to the trailer, take extra cloths just in case.

Yep, it has to be in a clear bag and the picture duckets are $2 each. The token machine is in the waiting room. The machine only takes dollars and you have to get them before youíre called because they will not let you go back

It does suck because I've been doing this for almost two years and now I have to re-think what I take. But it really isn't that bad, it just getting use to the new way. Maybe you can take something nice just not to tight, and at worse case you can go change into your sweats. Good Luck and your visit will be everthing and then some.

I talked to Mendez (is that spelled right?) today and he said that all the yards had usual programs...

That was at around 2:30pm today.

I had my first visit on the 16th and stayed the weekend. I had to change because my pants were too tight, so the next day I wore wind breakers. Lol. It made the prices soo much faster. Mendez was very nice.. The one that got on my nerves was the one who checks us in to the d yard visiting room.
