No, no hardcover. If its hardcover they'll let him know first. He can either send it back or give them the ok to cut the cover/back off.

Would sending stamps and envelopes through Amazon count as their one package at the SHU?

No, stamps aren't considered a package. SHU gets an annual package (sweats, thermal, food, tv.) Aside from the package you can send 3 tablets at a time, up to 40 stamps at a time and 40 envelopes. You can also send books (books have to be sent through outside source.. I.e. Amazon, Barnes & Noble)

Does sending envelopes and stamps count as their one package if they are in the SHU? I know they get only one per year while they're there

No, It doesn't count as a package. Stamps are not considered a package. SHU gets an annual package (sweats, thermal, food, tv.)

You can send anytime throughout the year through regular mail 3 writing tablets at a time, up to 40 stamps at a time and 40 envelopes. You can also send books (books have to be sent through outside source.. I.e. Amazon, Barnes & Noble)

Can comic books be sent if they are ordered directly from Amazon? I did send my man a letter asking also but thought I would try here rather than waiting for his response. I know there's one he really wants and they have it right now

No, sending a book does not count as a package. They have to be sent from an outside vendor. They're only supposed to have a total of about 10 books at one time (depending on the CO's, they can sometimes have more.)

Default 30-Day Delay in Crediting Postal Money Orders?

I have sent funds through J-Pay and Access Corrections, but have preferred to use Postal Money Orders because they are less expensive. In general, I've been satisfied with the timely notice they give to the inmate of PMO funds received. However, I understand that now PMOs do not get credited to the inmate's account until 30 days after receipt!

What in the world is this delay about? We all pay cash for PMOs, so the money is in Federal hands from day one. Do all CDCR facilities impose this 30-day delay?

I've always sent my bf the legal pads, only I tear off the cardboard and use a staple remover and a pair of plyers to rip the 2 or 3 staples out that bind it all together. You still have a little bit of glue on the edge after that, but I've never had a problem getting it through. But....my bf is in GP not the SHU so I don't know if they would trip on the glue part in there.

Thx OC - My husband is in SHU so ya they might trip on the glue. I'm gonna stick with the tearing the pads apart - just like I've done for for 4 years already........wow, now I think about it my kids think this is a totally normal thing for Mom to do! Ok, that's weird! LOL!!

Default Why 30-day Hold on PMOs?

Recently, two Atlantic seaboard States (VA and SC) have entered into contracts with JPay to process all money order remittances for inmates. Under the agreements, JPay is obliged to credit the inmate accounts at the institutions within 3 business days of receipt.

Why would it take CDCR employees 30 days to process PMOs for inmate accounts? JPay must face the same level of "bad" money orders that need to be scrutinized.

Question: I want to send my special friend some money because I know he hasn't got a lot (indigent state) and when the hunger strike ends..... I know I can send him some (because he said so), but has anybody any idea what fees will be taken from the money by the prison?

55% will be taken if he owes Restitution (fines) plus a $5 administrative fee for "medical".

If you use a service such as JPay - they also charge a fee for sending the money - but you can track it's been received and they get it quickly via JPay.

Default Beware of BLACKSTARVIDEO.COM

Beware: Families and Friends of Incarcerated ones. I recently had an unfavorable experience with magazine's that I purchased from BlackStarVideo.com. located on 352 lenox ave, New York, NY. I ordered 2 specific magazines and to my disbelief were sent two entirely different ones that my love one had no use for. I spoke to David the owner who all they do is argue and speak very loud so that you cant event talk. He told me he's out of the magazine I ordered and that he sent out different magazines to 300 other customers. Who gives them the right to just pick and choose a magazine for my love one without my consent and charge me and he replied..."I was the only one complaining. I asked for a refund and was told to return them. We all know that's not an easy task while incarcerated and I already located several other complaints on the bbb website that they ignore and never respond to. When an Item is returned they say they never received it. They know that most inmates arent going to return especially in there circumstances"incarceration" so they have victimized many inmates because of there situation.
