The article did not say what time this morning this happened. I did get a call out of C-yard at 11:23 am this morning. He made no mention of it. He did say that he only had a half day at school, but that could be for anything.
I guess we wait..

Not confirmed yet.
I don't think there's a yard we could list where we don't all feel anxious. Keeping prayers said that we hear from our loved ones soon.

"One of the assailants, 27-year-old Jose E. Herrera suffered a gunshot wound and was airlifted from KVSP and taken to an area hospital where he died."

So much sadness in a situation like this. My thoughts and prayers go to the Herrera family.

Quite the opposite...

Honestly these are the moments my heart just breaks. It's tragic that Herrera was killed, but I'm equally sad that it sounds as though the intent of the two attackers was to end the life of the third man. I know it's prison, but this news still gets me.

Violent people don't stop being violent just because you change their zip code.

Somewhere there's a family of an inmate that is very thankful for the difficult decision made by a CO.

Best to all involved.

Absolutely true on both issues. It just has seemed that 'that' particular facility has gotten more than its share recently.

Phillips used to be a pro football player for the Rams. Never quite had the career many thought , was the 6th overall pick and might have been a number 1 if he didn't have character issues in college.

Anytime someone feels the need to end their life, their pain is deeper than most of us will ever know. May he find peace.

I believe Kern Valley State Prison needs a lot of prayers right now. Every time I turn around someone is being killed or killing themselves.

Father God please surround our loved ones who are incarcerated with protection, give them strength mentally & physically, and courage throughout their day, daily...In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
