Default Sb890 (parole for JLWOP) passed the Senate

SB890 passed unanimously in the Senate and committees in Virginia. The bill allows juvenile offenders serving life without parole an opportunity to apply for it after serving 25 years. This is the first real chance that anyone has had of even offering parole to JLWOP offenders.

If this is something that interests you, please contact your Delegate and ask him to support this measure. Also, please write Delegate Rob Bell and the House Majority Leader, Todd Gilbert, and ask them to support it as well. The bill is bipartisan in its patrons and should be supported to protect the victims of crime and their families from having to sit through resentencing hearings as well as offer a second chance to those who have earned it.

It would also be wise to write Governor Northam and ask him to support this measure in the House as he did grand larceny reform.

I am praying this bill is passed. It would give my cousin a chance at release who has been incarcerated since she was 15 and has done 17 years. She's only 31
