Hi.

Every county work-release program is unique. Some counties will only release an inmate to a job which he/she held prior to commitment. Others allow the inmates to obtain jobs post-commitment (within certain guidelines) and some counties actually have an employment agency on contract.

You will have to speak with either the jail or a criminal defense attorney to get information about the program in a specific county.

Well, can one speak to the jail anonymously? About this subject matter?

What are factors that would eliminate someone from work release consideration?

The judge decides if you are eligible for work-release, so this is a question for your attorney.

Factors which could weigh against work-release: Nature of the crime (i.e. perceived risk to the community or community opposition), flight risk, need for treatment programs, mental health concerns, nature of the proposed job, travel/distance concerns, etc.

The jail's policies about the work may be in their handbook.
