Gov. Ducey vetoes sentencing 'stacking' bill that was opposed by prosecutors

PHOENIX — Arizona prosecutors will keep their ability to stack charges against some criminal defendants to get an enhanced sentence.

Gov. Doug Ducey on Friday vetoed legislation that would have limited the ability of prosecutors to charge some criminal defendants as serial offenders. The governor, in a one-line letter to legislative leaders, said he is concerned about “the unintended consequences that may arise from this legislation and the affect these changes would have on victims.”

how does this affect ppl already in prison doing time. my LO does not have their charges verified, but 1 has Y for ruling. so can the prosecutors come back and ask for a longer sentence why they are doing time now?

No, those already sentenced can't be re-sentenced because the Prosecutor wants to give them more time.
