Default AB 965- Youth offender and elderly parole credits

AB 965, as introduced, Mark Stone. Youth offender and elderly parole hearings: credits.

Under Proposition57, credit-earning opportunities were created for people positively participating in educational and vocational programs, self help groups, and for Good Time. These credit earning opportunities have allowed many people the opportunity to advance their release date, but these credits are not applied to the earliest possible parole hearing dates for people eligible for Youth Offender Parole or Elderly Parole. AB 965 will change that.

This is a good one to keep an eye on

This is fantastic and I hope it passes. Definitely not trying to rain on anyone's parade because this is what SHOULD have been from the jump, but darn if it isn't another way for my husband to get skipped. They're already three years past his eligibility. Take his credits off that date? We just get more overdue. It's actually a bit maddening.

Still...going forward it's the right thing to do. Fingers crossed.

This is great news. And agree w Miamac, this should have been in the original bill.

Passed and with positive feedback! They had a speaker just days out of prison speak on behalf of the bill and he knocked it out of the park!! So much so that the chair of the committee said something along the lines of "I agree with the opposition when they mention we need to check the impact these newly paroled individuals have on the community and public safety. I feel like it is a positive one and many people would be surprised" *Jaw on the floor*
Off to appropriations!!!
