Your family member should know. I don't know the cost of buying a TV now, but they are on the spendy side. They will take the money out of his account when he orders it.

I had the opportunity to visit my son at Bellamy Creek camp(IBC)
The camp is COMPLETELY separate from Bellamy Creek. It's actually right across the street from Michigan Reformatory. There are SIX prisons in Ionia, easy to get confused. IBC LOOKS like an old elementary school. Park right next to the yard, get buzzed in the gate. Lite, but thorough search. Guards were polite, I ask for nothing more. Machines take QUARTERS, so stop for change. My son says hes been told not to trust the food in the machines, so we stuck to snacks. Pop is a TREAT, I guess they don't get it inside. Small visiting room with Windows. I saw a "backdrop" for pics, but no way to purchase. The guards are not in the room, but there are cameras and they walk thru fairly often. At 8:30 it was time to go.
Walking out of there without him is almost impossible. One day he will go with me

Hi There!

Just found out that my fiance was moved to Bellamy yesterday. I can't wait until I am approved to visit. Is it still quarters for vending or have they moved to the debit cards now like most of the other facilities? Anything anyone can tell me, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

As I take it the machines still take quarters but I would call and ask just to be sure.

The camp takes QUARTERS,no change machine, so bring your own in a clear plastic bag
The big main prison building (level 4?) is a card you buy in the lobby before you go in.

Visiting Basics

There is a big parking lot and visitors parking is toward the back. Don't forget to take note of your license plate number because you will need it when you sign-in. There is no search of the vehicle but make sure you roll up all windows and lock your door. I was at visitation once and the CO called a person out who did not have their windows rolled up. They had to stop their visit to go back outside and take care of that.

NO CELLPHONES or WATCHES, just leave them in the vehicle.

To continue, once you enter the brick building, there is a lobby and a check-in desk. The sign-in sheet is to the left of the desk and as you are signing in, the desk officer may ask you for the inmate's number so they can start checking you in. If it is your first time, you can inform the desk officer and they will give you basic instructions on how the process works. Also there are signs attached to the desk with instructions as well.

1) sign in
2) give the officer the inmate's DOC# and he/she will verify the last name
3) provide picture ID to the officer to verify who you are
4) the officer will mark/stamp your hand to identify you as a visitor
5) the officer will give you a key to put your personal items in locker

Lockers
All personal belongings must go into the locker...EVERYTHING!!!! The only items that can be taken into the visiting room are 1) your picture ID 2) locker key 3) food card 4) photo tickets

If you have anything else, you will not be processed through security and it will delay your time to see your LO.

Once you place your belongings in the locker and close it, it locks by itself. You only need the key to get your belongings out at the end of your visit. If you close the locker and forget something or, by habit, put the key in the lock and it's stuck, ask the desk officer for assistance because it happened countless times when I would visit.

(to be continued)

Visiting Basics (continued)

Photo tickets
In the lobby, there is a vending machine with photo tickets. The tickets are $2.00 each and the machine takes exact change so it is best to have singles. Once you purchase the photo tickets, you need to check them in with the desk officer.

In the visiting room, there is a backdrop for photos and one of the inmates is on duty to take pictures.

Vending machines
There are several vending machines in the lobby if you need a snack before entering the visiting room. Of course those items are not actually allowed in the visiting room but are there for your convenience.

If you plan to purchase snack, food, pop, etc. from the vending machines in the visiting room, they use a vending card. The machine is in the lobby and the card costs $1.00 and money can be loaded on the card using the machine I believe in increments of $5, $10 and $20.

In the visiting room there is a microwave, plates, plastic ware, napkins, etc. toward the back of the room. There are also several trash cans for disposal of items. Be sure to put all packages items on a paper plate before sitting down with your LO, which again, are located on a table in the back of the room.

Security
You will be subject to a pat down and inspecting officer will check the bottom of your feet, your hands, pockets and the inside of your mouth for security purposes. Again the only thing you should have with you are 1) picture ID 2) locker key 3) vending machine card 4) photo tickets. You will give your picture ID to an officer and be asked to place your stamped/marked hand under a special light. The officer will give you a visitors badge that has to be worn on your upper body/chest area.

After the security check, you are on your way to see your LO. It's a process that is definitely worth it
