As of October 17, 2010 Pine River & Mid-Michigan merged and are both now called Central Michigan. The former Pine River side is now referred to as Central Michigan - West. The former Mid-Michigan side is now referred to as Central Michigan - East.

Snail Mail address for Central (no matter which side they're on) is:
320 N. Hubbard St. Louis, MI 48880

Physical address for the Central West/Pine River building is: 320 N. Hubbard St. Louis, MI 48880
Physical address for the Central East/Mid-Michigan building is: 8201 N. Croswell Road , St. Louis, Michigan, 48880

If is very important to find out from your loved one which side they're in before you visit so you do not lose out on visiting time by going to wrong building.

The following is a copy & paste from another thread I wrote about the Mid-Michigan side visiting.

-- Visiting is good. Let's see both shifts in the VR are laid back, though 2nd shift there is 1 female co who seems to have a stick up her butt & she is a little too umm firm & touchy so I try to use the bathroom only on 1st shift. No issues with over-crowding. They usually have music playing (it's the 'today's country' channel) not too loud that you can't hear each other, but not too low that you can't hear it either.
Visiting days/times: Mon, Thurs & Fri 2:30-8:30 and Sat & Sun 9am - 8pm. Photo tickets are only $2 and you buy them in the vending machine in the lobby or your guy can buy from store for same price. You park about a dang mile from the building lol be sure to pay attn to the signs that say no visitor parking beyond this point then you walk the sidewalk in front of the employees cars to the building by the car port. When you walk in grab a number then wait. Once they call your number that is when you sign in the log, they do not like you filling that out prior. The locker key is on a huge ring so if you're use to smaller this is your heads up, it will not fit in your money bag lol. When you go on a bathroom break you must take everything with you. This facility makes you take your license/id back in the room with you, you also have to give it to the box co after you go through the detector and you have to hold it up for the box co as you leave. Generally you can sit where ever you want, if the normal VR co isn't there that co might tell you where to sit. If you are the only 1 visiting they want you at the 2 seater tables against the walls, saving the middle areas for larger visiting groups, but as the day goes on you can ask to move to sit side by side. The tables aren't bad though, you can hold hands and still be kinda close.
The inmates can go up to the machines but can not touch the money at all. they can push the buttons, they can get the food out and they can work the microwaves.
They do have board games, cards, etc and they have a toy chest with toys for the kids and also crayons/coloring books.
I can't think of anything else off the top of my head, but if anyone else has questions just ask

Hopefully someone who visits the Pine River side replies to give their input for visiting there.

I hate it! Hes on the pine side of central. He says so many racist people there, it bothers him. Young kids too. Like a huge county jail full of assholes trying to act tough.
Its far away. It makes me so sad. We all know how much better offenders do when the get routine visits and now I can't do that. I will never stop writing him, every day baby...its so hard to be apart. Shit dont make sense.
As far as the actual visits, they were fine. Had to change my tank, too much back showing yet put on a v neck with boobies and that was ok??? Food is good. Cheaper than mrf. Games are clean and holy shit, every piece was there. Co's were pleasant. Everything u mentioned above about the process is the same. Although I only walked about a car lot length.
Only 99 days to go.....keep on trucking

Yeah the mid-michigan side has a lot of those types of inmate there too, as I wrote in a pm, a good chunk is stupid fools and caught in middle is the handful like our men who just want to finish their time and come home.

How far of a drive is it for you? It's about 2 1/2 hours each way for me. I'm not sure exactly how far it is from where we park to the building, but compared to Boyer Rd it's a hike lol. But, he's 30 minutes closer to me being here and an extra hour of visiting too so it's a trade off worth it Hopefully we're just about done with this journey. Glad yours has a flat, atleast you don't have to deal with the PB and their god complexes.

I was there for a year and just got out not too long ago. Theres a lot of gangs there, but honestly there is just a bunch of idiots there.....some are in gangs some arent. Its just a mix of people doing dumb shit. Usually when someone gets stabbed, theres a reason behind it. It dont just happen to random people. Someone owed money, stole something, disrespected someone that took serious offense to it, etc. If you mind your own business and dont talk to the police, you will be just fine.
The place is a shit hole, thats for sure. And the other side is not called Mid-Michigan. Its now called STF east and west when you are doing paperwork inside. Outside it is refered to as CMCF, Central Michigan Correctional Facility. One side used to be called St. Louis Pine River, I forgot what the other side was called. But Mid-Michigan is another prison all together, Muskegeon I believe.

My husband has been there since shortly before the name change [when he was first transferred there that facility was called Mid-Michigan] -- between that, the state website & even jpay; one side for a fact is formerly known as Mid-Michigan Correctional facility now called Central East and the other side is for a fact formerly known as Pine River Correctional facility now called Central West. Muskegon Correctional Facility is not even near Saint Louis, MI it's in Muskegon, MI. So I'm sorry, you may have been in there for a year, but you don't know what you're talking about concerning what they were formerly called & still with a lot people [inside & outside] called informally.

My son is there now, on the west side. I'm driving up for a visit today. He said he likes it there and his bay mates are all really nice. So far, he's had no issues (he didn't have issues in his other place, either). At his forer placement, he was fed up with the young kids (he's not THAT old himself) and was frustrated at their inability to keep calm and carry on. He said most of the folks at STF are on their way home (or close to it) and really aren't doing the drama and petty stuff.

STF is near Mt. Pleasant so it's about a 2 hour drive for me (I'm near Detroit). Thank goodness I have great tunes on the car! MTU was also a 2 hour drive...so I am used to it. I am just thankful he's just doing his time and not getting involved in the drama!!

Now that I think about it, when I rode in I think I saw a sign that said Mid-Michigan on it with an arrow pointing the opposite way of where I went and I probably mis-took that for a different facility. I was never on the east side, I was on the west side the whole time I was there. From what I was last told, the whole place is called CMCF. I didnt think they had an east & west as far as people on the outside are concerned.
Anyways, maybe thats what it was. The east side was Mid-Michigan and the west side was St. Louis Pine River. And I do know that Muskegon is nowhere near there.

I dont know where your son is at Pookie, but that place is FULL of drama. One side more than the other, but that prison is full of idiots and assholes. Bunch of gangs there. Dont get me wrong, you can keep away from the bullshit if you know what NOT to do. I was in A unit on the west side. Some units are better than others also. Some C/O's run their unit strict, so dont care what you do as long as you dont the C/O in trouble with his superiors.
I personally think that place sucks, as do most of the people that have been there. The water is messed up. The citizens in the local area surrounding CMCF filed a law suit against whoever handles the water around there and it was determined that the water was hazardous.........I read it when I was there, im sure the article can be found with some searching. Anyway, the prison claims that the water in the prison is not the same water the local people are getting.
Anyway, ill go on complaining and telling stories forever if I dont stop now.

The water is well water...my son has had experience with well water and knows what it is. I am taking his word for it...since I know him and know when he's bullshitting. He's not. I guess compared to where he WAS at, this place is great. He's not into drama and likes his bay mates...so all is good. The COs treated me (and him) with respect when I went for a visit. They were very friendly. His RUM is much better than the last one he had. My son gets along with everyone and is very personable. He's on the West side. Not sure what unit. He said he hasn't run into any gangs...just mostly guys who are on their way out or close to it.

The only signage there was Central Michigan. One road in and out. I did get to park really close to the building (west) for visitation. Not sure what sign you saw...there was only one sign with an arrow on the main road and that was for the road with the prison on it.

The sign is probably gone. I saw that sign in 2010. It was by a road where you could go one way or another.
I think the issue with the water was something getting into the well. Its well water, thats obvious, but it has an unpleasant odor to it. They use something in the tanks in the winter and they freeze or get plugged up or something, i forget exactly.....but anyway, in the winter, the hot water routinely will go out. So you have a choice of either taking an ice cold shower, or getting your shower stuff together and walking completely across the yard to the opposite units to take a shower. Then walk back wet in 20 below wind chills. Thats no fun.
Im happy to hear your son has a good cube. You might be suprised to hear the dumb things people have done that are on their way out the door. Some people either just dont care about their freedom or are just stupid. One example of stupid is a guy was going home in 2 days, there was a pouch of tobacco in the ARUS's office. Well, at night be went through the ceiling and broke into the office for the pouch. Needless to say he didnt go home and caught a new charge. This happened in the unit I was housed in, this is not a made up story.
I hope your son stays out of trouble there, shouldnt be too difficult to do. Its good he has cool C/Os also. There are plenty of mean and dirty C/Os there that love to make peoples time difficult. If he is in A unit, the unit I was in, that unit is ran reasonably well with a few descent resident officers. When I left, E unit was the one they were putting everyone in they had issues with. Hell, people go home everyday, and the staff changed the way certain things were done on what seemed like a monthly basis. Theres no telling what has changed in the 8 months since I was last there.
Anyway, good luck to your son again, sounds like he knows how to stay under the radar and get home.

My husband will agree 100% with this part. He has been in over 13 years, been to a handful of facilities and STF is one of the worst in the state for level I - heck he says worse then even some level II's - both sides. Any one causing problems in the east side is moved to the west and vice versa. A ton of stealing, bullying, young punks acting like they are gods. As Eric said, if you know how to handle yourself right in there then no problems. Yes, most there are on their way out, but the majority of them are too selfish, immature, etc to care. They will do what they want anyways because they think they are untouchable. Not sure about east side, but west side has been hit with some idiots stealing others pins for the phones - thank goodness I pay via pcs so it doesn't affect us personally.

The water is very bad, it is a health issue. Same thing with Carson City. Where I live we have well water too and our water does not smell or look like that. For the longest time guys were given free bottled water because of it. That stopped once the state was able to legally get around it.

They must've changed it within the last few months because when I last visited in May 2012 it was still up. And on the east side the huge sign in front of building we go in to visit still said Mid-Michigan on it.

I was on the west side for visitation, so didn't even get to see the east...

Guess my son is having a different experience (he's always been quite honest in what's going on inside and with him). He really just wants to do his time and come home. Guess that makes a world of difference. This is just his 2nd facility, so he really has nothing to compare to...but I'm still taking his word for it that he has decent bunkies.

That is exactly how it goes. If you do something wrong on the east side, they send you to the west and vice versa. If you get moved for protection from one side to the next, it does no good cause they can get a message across easily. They have programs on one side or they other and people from one side go to the other for programs every day.
Its a lot of gangs there and they WILL rob someone in an instance if they think they can get away with it. If you have no friends and have a lot of stuff, you can almost be guarenteed you wont have all that for long. If you have a questionable case, your going to be a target also. The stealing and robbing when I was there was something that happened VERY VERY often. Every store day a few people get robbed. If there are non regular officers working, then odds of something bad happening in the unit are pretty high.
Best advice I can give is dont gamble, dont borrow, dont loan, dont get in a situation where you might have to owe....if you have plenty of money, dont let people know and dont order huge store bags. Dont do anything to make it look like you are flaunting your property or store goods because if you do someone WILL try to take it. Quite a few of the lockers there can be peeled open, almost all of them on the east side, very few on the west side.
The place sucks, thats all I can say

He said that just about everyone in his bay has a TV and those that do share with those who don't (my son does). When he first rode in, he didn't get his property right away. A guy gave him a toothbrush, another gave him some shampoo. My son was reluctant to take it, thinking they would want some sort of payback. They didn't. They just did it to be nice. If my son has something he got from SecurePak or store and someone doesn't get stuff...he shares. He says that he's fortunate to have family that sends stuff so he feels bad when others don't have that. He also lets guys read his books and magazines (after he's read them). Guess it's his way of protecting his stuff and to not get people mad at him for anything stupid. Like I said, my son has the uncanny ability to get along with everyone and doesn't play into drama. I have faith that what my son tells me is true. He hasn't run into any gangs or assholes yet...

Its a way of protecting the loved ones on the outside. Our loved ones care dearly for us and until theyr home safe, we won't hear all the stories. My fiance has been there for a couple months, on the west. There are 2 signs, not that it matters one bit. Its shitty, but all he can compare it to is mrf. And you'r right as long as he minds his own business, he'll be alright

I agree. My son was quite honest about stuff at his former place. He only has one place to compare it to, also.

OK, I retract my earlier statements about my son liking central. He hates it and has been threatened numerous times. They actually left a note on his bunk today threatening him. He doesn't know who did it but is going to be asked to be put in protective custody. He doesn't want any trouble and doesn't want to catch a ticket. He put in for a transfer but that takes such a long time. I am worried about him. He sounded absolutely pitiful on the phone today. He said he just called to tell me he was going to ask to get locked up. It's sad that someone has to do that. They should have different rules for people who need protection, instead of locking them up as if they did something wrong. My son is happy go lucky and doesn't get involved with anything. He stays to himself and isn't disrespectful. He's had NO tickets since he's been in (over 2 years). Why can't people just respect that he wants to do his time and be done with it and leave him alone?

Thanks for letting me vent.

Very sorry to hear that pookie Hopefully they don't send him next door to east, but instead to a completely different facility. Just about all places there will be idiots like that, unfortunately central is one of the worse for it.
