375 miles each way, about 6 hours. I stay for three days at a time. Recently discovered Amtrak and I love it!

I drive 1 hour 1 way and I love it. We still schedule the in person visits since I usually work around 50 hours a week but there have been times he has called on the weekend and asked me to come see him on a whim. I couldnít imagine being any further away from him!

My drive is about 45 minutes long. I count myself so blessed that he was put in a facility so close to home.

A one-way-itinerary looks like this: two hours to the airport on commuter train, however long at the airport, a two-and-half-hour flight, then a two-and-half drive to the prison. Then the way back in reverse three days later. I have a full-body workout on the travel days.

I haven't visited yet in his new facility. When he was in the city jail it was a 45 minute subway ride followed by a 35-45 minute bus ride. Now he's about a 5 hour drive away and if I take the train it would be close to 8 hours plus a half hour drive to the facility. The thought of making that trip is incredibly daunting but I also miss him so much. Plus he only gets visits every other week so I want to make sure he gets at least one or two this summer.

And gosh darn it if he isnít being sent to a parent institution that is almost 2 hrs away too, over 100 miles one way for a 2-3 hr visit. Of course they couldnít have been nice and sent him to one that was closer, roughly an hour away and there are 3 like that near me too.

Currently a 7.5 hour drive (even though there was availability 2 hours away) but after I move in 2 weeks, it will be a 2 day drive or 3 hour flight.

My flight is about 6000 miles and takes between 14 - 18 hours so I can only travel to see my fiance every 6 months so I usually stay for 2 weeks when its holidays so we get more visits

3,600 miles R/T, From North Idaho to Springfield, Mo., I fly out of Spokane, Washington. So depending on what Airline I choose, itís anywhere from 8 to 12 hours, with layovers. I have driven this route 28 times in my life, as my son is incarcerated in the town I was raised in. I only fly now, Iím getting older and the drive is just too long, and my husband has no time off to drive with me. I stay for 2 weeks and that gives me 4 visits, I feel I am truly blessed as I have family that picks me up and drops me off at the Prison, and opens their home for me to stay. Last year I made 2 trips and this year Iíve made one in May and I will be going in November for the 2nd trip. Sure I wish he was closer, but I really hope he is never moved to a different facility, this is the best facility for him and as far as Prisons go heís lucky, not once have they been on Lockdown since heís been there.
