Default Son @ ok county.looking at 85% of 15 yrs

My first post.
My son is being charged with robbery 1 and using an imitation weapon.
We are looking at a minimum 15 yrs and 85% must be served. The laws state, in the state penetentiary.
So does that mean he will definitely go to McAlister, if found guilty?
I am worried about him right now. Last we spoke, I had to give him The bad news of multiple charges being put on him. He seemed quietly confused and shocked. Now I haven't heard from him since and it's been well over a week. I've sent a package, a letter, put $ on his books, and not a call, it seems very strange. I've called and they say he is still in the same area, that is all.
I try to be encouraging to him, but worry he thinks I don't hurt for him, and I do, I have cried many tears, breaks my heart. I love him but I couldn't help him when he needed me most. He has a baby daughter that he loves and a baby momma that he is heartbroken over.
They have him as the third person in a two person cell, on the floor.

Also, I am a Christian and I do believe that God can make this all be for the good. Time is nothing to God. Our eternal life is much more important. And hopefully that many do find and turn to God in jail, prison.

I was incarcerated in Oklahoma for almost a decade, so I will see if I can help you here.

You asked, So does that mean he will definitely go to McAlister, if found guilty?

No, it does not. While the prison at McAlester is the only maximum security prison in Oklahoma, more guys with serious charges and long sentences are shipped to a medium security prison. The Oklahoma prison system has medium security facilities at Dick Conner at Hominy, at OSR in Granite, at James Crabtree in Enid, at Joseph Harp at Lexington, and Mack Alford at Stringtown.

The Oklahoma DOC has many more minimum security prisons than it has medium security prisons.

After classification, your son will most likely to be sent to a medium security prison. He will be classified at the Lexington Assessment and Reception center, and I doubt he will be classified with enough points to send him to the only maximum security prison in Oklahoma, Big Mac in McAlester.

He could also be sent to one of the several medium security prisons owned and operated by a private prison corporation.

I served time with a LOT of inmates with crimes much worse and with sentences much longer at a medium security prison. Since the prison at McAlester is always full to capacity, the Oklahoma DOC sends the overflow to one of the medium security prisons in the state. Joseph Harp is the best medium security prison, while Dick Conner or the prison at Granite is the worst.

Chances are that he will never see the inside of a maximum security prison, such as the one at McAlester. He more than likely will be sent to a medium security prison.

Hope this helps,

rewdiazepam

Thank you for the information on McAlister prison. From what I read online, it said, , to be served in the state penetentiary, so I assumed he had to go there.
Seems anywhere would be better than ok county.
Right now there must be some kitchen problem. They are serving the same thing every day,, oatmeal, bologna sandwich, chicken sandw. or burger. Every day. Also, the sleeping on the floor. And I get the idea of visiting through A TV screen. Not even bothering. Through glass would be much better.

All I can say is Pray, it's a hard road, but we've all been down it. You and He will make it , things will get easier once he starts moving around, and soon will be in his home yard. Always write keep money on his book's and the phone open, YOUR his outside voice! When in doubt just yell one of us can help with questions! Lord Hold mom's hand as she walks thru this, AMEN! From one mother to another. Big Hug!

Been to Joe harp, med side, it's pretty nice for a prison, but the fact remains its still a prison with rules etc, you can have your l/o pre pay for ice cream and get some while your the visiting, lol canteen is the same, high, its OK clean for the most part. I didn't have any problems when I went if you have Kiddos going they do have one of the biggest area's for kids, with lots of nice games to pay, books, and movies too

This is an old thread and I just saw your post. My husband got 15 years at 85% which means he serves 12 with good behavior. We have three years left. We've had experience with 4 minimum and medium yards. Anywhere IS better than OK county. Keep in prayer for your son. Prison absolutely saved my husbands life and I believe God has a purpose for his journey. Love and peace to you. I'm living proof you can get through it.
