Call the jail where he is now and ask them where they send the inmates for reception in state prison. They should be able to tell you where he will be sent.
My husband was transfered from the Main Jail in downtown San Jose to Elmwood in Milpitas. I believe he was transfered Saturday night. (03/07/09)
Anyway, he was told by some imate that he might get sent to some county jail in Delano, CA for recpetion. Is this true?
If not, where else could he get transfered to for recpetion?
Also, when will he most likely be transfered over to where ever they send him? A week, two weeks..?
He will not go to a county jail for reception, he will go to prison. Yeah, you could call the prison and ask where they send them. I had a friend who's hubby was from the bay area and they sent him to San Quentin. That is not saying that is where your loved one will go though.
I think the prison in Delano is NKSP that is used for reception.
Theres also Wasco, and there are two prisons in Delano. KVSP and NKSP. KVSP is the one thats mostly a reception center... But he could go anywhere..
As for waiting to go where he's going to go, expect a few months. NOT weeks sorry. Also the higher his level the longer it takes. My hubby was a level 1 and spent 4.5 months in reception.
we are in the north bay and my hub went to san quentin.
he was there for over one yr, so the time varies ALOT.
He was told he would probably go to corcoran, but ended up in tehachapi.
I think he was in county after sentencing for about a month.(cant remember now)

I think the actual reception centers for Nor Cal are San Quentin and Duel (DVI) but my guess is that they'll send him wherever they have room and whenever they can get him a ride there. That's how it worked for us anyway.
My husband left Yolo County about two months after sentencing and was sent to DVI where he was "blacked out" for about a month before being transferred to Soledad where he "blacked out" again for another month while they figured out what level he should be. He was at Soledad about two months and came back to appear in court in Solano county to petition for concurrent time on another crime and he was sent back to Soledad via Delano's reception (blacked out for two weeks). So anything is possible. As far as I can see there's no set time limit for anything. They don't give much weight to where the inmate wants to go and they pretty much do what they want.
If you're transferring from county to CDC the single most important thing to know is that any money you want him to have should be put on his books before he leaves county jail --- he can take that with him. CDC will claim 55% or so of any money you send him (or any money he earns) while he's in their custody.
