Your Fiance has to request a marriage packet from his counselor, once you complete you mail in and wait to be contacted to see if it was approved, and then you will pick a date. The cost are 55.00 at the beginning then 100.00 for the minister if you dont have your own.

Has anyone ever heard of a bride performing her own wedding? Just asking because I just became an ordained minister and can perform weddings and most other ceremonies. Baptismals, funerals, etc.

I'm not trying to debate you, but I wonder if this is the best thing in the world. Generally, the officiant of the ceremony is responsible for determining that the parties are entering into the marriage contract legally. I won't get into the religious aspects, because that varies from religion to religion and I am in no way an expert in religions. I'm more talking about the legalities - that both parties are competent and free of obstacle and enter into the contract of their own free will, because they desire to do so. The officiant may become a witness in a case, should annulment be considered by either party at a later date.

Basically, what I'm saying is that you really shouldn't wear two hats at your own ceremony. If you're intending to work as an ordained minister beyond this one ceremony, then you'll really want to make sure you toe an ethical line and do not do anything that in any way can be viewed as shady.

Fwiw, I'm not saying you're doing anything shady, or that you and he aren't entering into this of your own free will because you both love each other and want to change your legal status in relationship to each other. All I am saying is that from the outside, should your professional judgement ever get questioned, whether for this marriage or for something else, you do not want people pointing to this as an example of poor judgement or misuse of power or whatever dubious thing they choose to hit you with. A marriage should always be about the two people joined as family, and never about the status of the officiant, and whether or not the officiant was acting ethically.

Bring in another minister. Save your first marriage as an officiant for another couple.

I agree with yourself and was trying to craft a post that said pretty much the same thing, also adding that I think it is important to remember that a wedding ceremony is symbolic of you two coming together as a team/as one... and if you are both the bride and the officiant, it kind of skews the symbolic power balance a little. I dont know if that makes sense, but I imagine myself standing WITH my guy BEFORE an ordained "authority" to profess our love and commitment to one another. It just doesn't make sense in terms of Gestalt for ME to be the one to whom we profess our love.

I don't know if that even makes sense to anyone but me.

I didn't say I was officiating my own wedding thank you very much. I was asking if anyone has heard of it being done. I have a minister to perform my wedding to my love . and as far as misusing my power I had no intention of doing that.

Default Wedding ceremonies in Avenal State Prison

Just wondering how do wedding ceremonies go in Avenal. Do we get to take pictures, read our own vows, does he have to wear his prison clothes?

This thread seems a little dated. What is the marriage package cost & timeframe from submission? We’re looking at later on this year so trying to be prepared & get funds together in advance so we’re ready.
