Thanks for posting this about ex-governor Blagojevich! There's a tiny bit of humor--but certainly he is living a good life in that federal prison compared to what our loved ones have in state prisons.

At Stateville (Illinois), a maximum security facility, the diet consists mainly of soy beans mushed with a little bit of meat, smothered in gravy to disguise it, and served nearly daily. You may think soy beans are good for you, but in such large quantities they overload you with hormones and cause damage. I read that soy beans add female hormones to men, so there could be an ulterior motive besides saving tons of money!

If you knew all the crooked things Blagojevich did, no one would have any sympathy for him! But the news media seems to like him and pander to his huge ego!

Thousands of clemency petitions filed by prisoners in Illinois were ignored by Blagojevich for many years. Blagojevich admitted he didn't want to be a governor and didn't do the job. Often his aides did the work for him! The new governor, Pat Quinn, has been working on the backlog of petitions.

As some of you may know, the original petition was set up to go to Gov. Blagojevich. He was a crook and finally arrested. He was tried and convicted! Gov. Quinn was appointed to take his place.

The petition is still collecting signatures and periodically sent to Quinn. According to newspapers, Quinn was stuck deciding a few THOUSAND petitions that were submitted to Blagojevich!! Obviously, he was not doing his job very well....

I recently read that Quinn has finished answering all the old petitions--surprisingly he said YES to hundreds of them! Sadly, not one petitioner was still in prison. This fact has me worried.....

Gov. Quinn is methodically going through petitions, in order received. So my son's petition should be on his desk now !

Through a blog where my son's weekly stories are published (called "On the Inside"), readers have been signing the petition too. Many have actually written letters and sent emails to Gov. Quinn too.

I just keep praying--day and night--that Quinn will do the right thing and grant my son clemency. A governor can do that in a heart beat and Paul could be freed in a day!

Besides this hope, we have a lawyer who is still working on a Successive Post Conviction Petition to be filed in court. She is nearly finished and should file it this year. (Successive Post Conviction Petitions take many years to be heard, and very few are granted.)

Thanks so much for asking. Sorry the response is so long, but once you are convicted the entire burden is shifted to you to prove your innocence. And government doesn't make it easy to do.

Even men who have DNA evidence can wait YEARS to be set free!

Thank you for signing Paul's petition for clemency. I am so glad I found this support group here!

Sorry to not respond earlier--it is just shocking! Do you mean the judge was his father? or do you mean his father was his accuser?

Either way, this is shocking and hard to understand or believe how awful this must be for your brother in law, and you who must be his friend.

Have you written about this in detail on this site? Not that it will change anything, but you may gather ideas on PrisonTalk as to what you can do or hope for.

I hope a good lawyer is now involved. Be forewarned: it takes many years to battle in court. Once you are convicted, it is an uphill battle. We've been fighting 20 years and will never give up. We've gone through several lawyers too, but my main hope and faith is in God who has a plan....

Perhaps (please) people can just send an email directly to Gov. Quinn? On my son's blog, there is a link for an email near the top of the page. Paul's blog can be reached here:

Paul is writing a weekly story about his life in prison. He is still at Stateville, a maximum-security prison.

He was arrested just a few months after his 18th birthday, and this year he will be 38 years old. We've hired so many lawyers over the years, and each one screws up some way. The current lawyer has been working on his case for 3 years now and may soon (?) finish and file a "successive post conviction petition".

May God bless us all and bring true justice to this world! AMEN
UPDATE: The online petition has finally been fixed! The signature count is now up to 1,015. Again, thank you everyone for signing!
