Default How soon before eligible HWH date do case managers usually notify inmates?

Hi there,

My loved one and I are wondering how much time he will get in a HWH. I know it is a crap shoot and completely up to them. My question is: on average (i know there is no such thing as this in BOP!) how far in advance is inmate officially notified the HWH date their unit team deems them eligible for? My loved one was told by case manager verbally/casually like a year ago this date would be around December 2018 which gives them 5 months time in HWH which is great, but no official paperwork or word since and December is very soon!!!)

Another way to phrase this question (system wouldn't let me edit it): ,

on average (i know there is no such thing as this in BOP!) how far in advance is inmate officially notified the HWH date their unit team deems them eligible for? My loved one was told by case manager verbally/casually like a year ago the date they would recommend for him would be around December 2018, but no official paperwork or word since and December is very soon!!!)

And follow up question: are inmates only given official paperwork with this date AFTER hwh approves it aka there is bedspace, or are they given something official in writing letting them know of the date the unit team is recommending that has been approved by warden prior to hwh responding if this will actually work as date or not bedspace wise? Again, I know there is no official policy or predictable rule as this is the BOP

About 4 weeks after my husband arrived for his sentence he was sent a letter from the BOP in Texas that stated what his release date would be with good time credit and what his home detention/halfway house eligibility date would be.

Then, about 9 months before the hwh eligibility day, he was told by his case manager that he was being recommended for home confinement. This is normally done with less time remaining, but the case manager was ahead on paperwork. After about 2 months, my husband was notified that he was approved for home confinement, although he still has to go to the Chicago HWH for orientation which is a minimum of 10-14 days (whereas other HWH it might be only 1 day of orientation).

He will be released in just under 4 months, but doesn't have any other documentation yet, other than what his case manager has shown him on the computer.

Ask at a unit team meeting. The only paperwork I ever got was my unescorted furlough instructions as I was leaving prison for the HWH.

Eligibility date doesn't mean it is when he will be "recommended" for HWH, and even that depends on bed availability. The case manager sends a request to the HWH, which then replies with the date when he can arrive, The case manager may inform him right away, or some time closer to when he will be leaving.
