Smile California 3 Strikers are being released

There is an organization unite the people (google them) they are helping inmates that are non-violent 3 strikers get out, under Prop 57, and a few recent court cases through inmates filing writs. I thought I would spread the message.

Default California 3 Strikers are being released

I believe this is the organisation you are referring to https://www.unitethepeople.org/. they are a non profitable organisation but they do charge for legal services.

You are referring to Unite The People. www.unitethepeople.org/. They will charge you a fee to prepare a Writ of hebaes corpus. For a third non violent strike conviction They prepare these writs two different ways. They fill out the information for you and you file Pro-Se , or you can hire them as counsel to file for you. Basic fee is $1,500 for the preparation of the writ which is prepared by a paralegal. With that said you will not get any legal advice unless you retain them as counsel. Filing Pro-Se you will still be reasonable for the filing fee or obtaining a fee waiver. Either way that you file there is no guarantee that your LO is getting out. The recent rulings only said that they must be considered for release on parole. This means you still have to appear in front of the Parole Board for release, lot of things can still go wrong at a Parole Board hearing You may also be wise to read this decision from the courts In re VICENSON D. EDWARDS B288086 For a better understanding on what issues were raised and decided upon by the Court

I don't believe unitethepeople is the way to go, at least not yet. I would think that it best to begin some preliminary work for a parole packet, such as organizing friends & family to write letters of support, approaching possible employers, reading your lease in case moving will be necessary....in other words, wait'n see what the State comes up with as far as the new regulations, but count your ducks so you can get them in a row if/when you need to.

For more info on the new regulations and the possible release of non-violent 3rd Strikers, see the following thread:

CDCR issues new, emergency regs: 3-4,000 nonviolent 3rd-strikers affected

For anyone who has a non-violent 3rd Striker serving Life: Best of luck to you all, may your loved ones be home in 2019, or at least shortly thereafter
