Default What is the deal with Western Union and supervision fees?

A few months ago my husband goes to see his PO and she informs him that starting the following month, he will no longer pay his supervision fee by money order but rather he would send the money by Western Union to an MDOC account. His account number would be his MDOC number and last name. I just thought it was odd. He doesn't mind, since I am the one who takes care of it.

A couple of times we couldn't find the right forms and had to go to several locations before we could get the money wired. HOWEVER, I would gladly pay any amount to have him home and not locked up, so we'll jump through the hoops.

I'm not complaining - just wondering why they switched. Was there a problem with the money orders? Anyone got any dirt?

Too many officers were loosing money orders etc. Plus MDOC gets a bigger kick back if you send it Western Union etc.

Glad to see you back online

So you're saying the Mississippi Department of Corrections isn't competent? Who'd have thought it?

P. S.

It's great being back.

Well, I was just thinking it had to be something to do with money. Between the telephone calls, canteen, and now western union, can anyone else think of ways inwhich the state can make money off of some families unfortunate circumstances?

Hey Danielle..GREAT to see ya again..I missed your posts because I THOUGHT I was subscribed to this thread and would get the message in my email.. Well I AM NOW!! SMILE!!

Sounds to me like " what ever is MORE difficult and more expensive".. Nahhh, I am SURE they have good reasons.. Was the money given to the PO before?? If so I could see where SOME monies may have not gotten in the right hands or was it mailed in?? Just wondering myself..
As you say "WHAT EVER IT TAKES" but I think of some who REALLY would have a problem getting this done properly. They all do not have a "Danielle" to make sure it is done correctly ( SMILE) and some could GO BACK TO PRISON just because of this.

You can do the Western Union online and it is a little easier... it is like $1.00 more but driving to the store would waste about that much in gas now. Make sure your printer is working though so yo can print the receipt off though.

The only problem we ever had was a problem with the lines being down and not able to send money! The Super Stops (now Cefco's) were really bad about telling us this - I think it was because they didn't want to fool with it to be honest with ya. Never had that problem when we went to SaveRite - and the girls there knew exactly what forms and info were needed. (SaveRite is part of the Winn-Dixie chain).
