Default Fixing California's Mass Incarceration Mess

As California grapples with a prison system so broken that the U.S. Supreme Court has mandated reductions in the number of prisoners it holds, the three-part "Smart Justice: Rethinking Public Safety in California" discussion begun this past week at the University of Southern California is examining both consequences and possible solutions to the state's mass incarceration mess. Read on....

I agree with Austin releasing over served lifers is a viable option they are the lowest risk. My husband is one in that category and is 27 years over served

I hope by the time my guys min is done they won't be keeping them so long. He's 15-L and there is nothing to be gained for anyone to keep him longer than that. Even now it's done it's punishment.

I truly believe change is on the horizon. We just need to wait and see.

I have my toes and fingers crossed. I feel that a change will happen, however it's at a snails pace. This has been dragging on for years in court with 6 month extensions and continuances. It's so frustarating because its all a cat and mouse game, with every Governor that holds office . I am tired of the shenanigans.

I hold on to faith and believe it will end soon, and the FEDs take over.

I too pray the Feds are fed up playing with the powers that be in this state. I do believe that this is what Jerry Brown wants. It removes the responsibility of actually releasing inmates from him. And to think he is busy fooling around in China wasting taxpayers money hoping to find a way to get the Bulket Train to Calufornia. Between what he wastes fighting the inevitable and what he will waste getting this train the prison problem could have been solved. What amazes me the most is that this mess of mass incarceration in this state really started with him in the 70s and now it is time or him to fix the mess he created.

He won't do it. But it sounds like the feds will I'd like to have my husband home by Christmas and my cousin in law too. It would be nice for them to see each other again. The public needs to lean on them too so come on lifer families get at your representatives so they know we are behind it
