I had no problems there. They do soemtimes refuse to wand visitors if the detector goes off more than three times (which they are not supposed to d...refuse to wand that is) You will ususally get at least an hour and a half visit. Weekend mornings are the best time to go, they do not start checking you in until 8:30 on the dot. I would arrive between 8:00-8:15 and be one of the first ones in.

You need to call the prison he is in and ask:
1. What are the visiting hours
2. What time do you need to be there by to register for the visit (many prisons are different)
3. What type of identification is needed (usually a valid drivers license is all that is needed) If you have children, you'll need a copy of their birth certificate - but always ask them what you need

Generally, the way it works is the inmate must ask for you to be on the visiting list. You will be sent a form to complete and mail back to the address on the form. Once you have been approved for a visit, the inmate will let you know.

It is also a good idea to always call prior to a visit to be sure your loved one is still in that facility and if they have visiting that day.

I drove up to Cheshire today and forgot to call first and they didn't have visits- fun and games!

Good
