No they can't receive packages while in reception but you can send stationary. Yes, they can go to the store.

Why don't you try to contact his counselor or the chaplan? Maybe they can get the message to him, I mean, this is his child. It's kind of a big deal. I would try that. I think they would understand. Just a suggestion...

I'd also send postcards - they get to the guys fastest. You can get a few and send every few days letting him know how you're doing. I get the larger sized ones - or I go to like Dollar Tree and buy greeting cards and just tear them down the middle and use the picture side as a postcard.

Good luck and congrats on the new baby.

Yes, just call the main line and ask for Records. They can tell you who his counselor is and transfer you to that extension.

Well, hopefully someone will come along with the reception amount - I THINK it's $45 a month for reception inmates, but it's been awhile, so if someone knows for sure - please post here.

On mainline, the max amounts are $90 a month for unassigned (those not in school or not working) and $180 for those who are assigned.

Does anyone know when B yard goes to canteen? His building is B2. It's only once a month right? And is there a max $ amount they are allowed to spend in reception?
Thanks in Advance.....

Hello and welcome to PTO.

Most guys can scrounge up paper and a stamp to get a letter out, but as soon as you get his CDC#, send him a stationary packet so he has plenty.

He needs to send you a visiting application too so you can get that whole process started. Once you are approved (90-120 days) the visits are one hour glass visits.

Read, read, read and post in the threads where you have questions - or here in the newbie thread.

Happy you found us!

Mine is in a cell. He is in reception too. He sent his first letter on one of those yellow letter sized envelopes with the metered mail on it. He sent it out as soon as he entered his cell with a visiting form included. He originally was sent to B but was moved within the first week to C-3 and is in a 2 man cell. It took me about 5 weeks to get approved, well, I had two weekends of visits then this silly lock down. Our visits are 30 minutes behind the glass (reception time) with an appointment. I'm not sure of his day for store. I never really paid attention. I do know they did not take his ressution out with the initial money I sent on jpay. I get his letters in 2 days, he gets mine in 2 weeks. Now, it only takes about 4-5 days when they are rerouting the letters though, go figure. It took him about 1 month to get the stationary packet I sent. It also took him 1 month to get his books too.

You don't have to wait that long probably. Go to JPay.com and follow all the prompts as if you are going to send him money (this is the online site for sending money to inmates). Oftentimes, JPay will have them in the system before you can get through to Inmate Locator.

Can't hurt to try and if it was me (and the JPay doesn't work) I'd start calling the Inmate Locator after about 4 days from when you know he arrived at the prison.

I'm not too new, but can someone tell me how much writing paper we can send and what is the procedure? Do we have to take it out of the package or can we leave it in the plastic that it comes in I am still trying to figure all this out

Someone will come along who can tell you how many sheets of paper can be sent per mailing, but yes, you can take it out of the packing or leave it in as long as it's not over the limit on how much they can have.
