What's the question? Admiralty law is a real practice area relatively few attorneys focus in. Supposed adherence to admiralty law is also the basis for some sovereign citizen arguments. Depending on what you heard, you may receive a straight answer or a explanation on how admiralty law really doesn't say or do what it's being purported to do.

It sounds like it could be sovereign citizens BS to me too. Given the usual strength of their "evidence", LOL, owning a boat might be the reasoning that exempts them from ever having to follow any law that they don't agree with.

This is the first line of a google search for "maritime admiralty law sovereign citizen".

"A sovereign citizen has to make a contract with that corporation – one governed by admiralty or maritime law – to grant the government any jurisdiction over their person. And since a sovereign citizen has made no such contract, no court orders apply to them".

I'm incredulous that anyone would pay for this mumbo-jumbo BS, but plenty of them apparently do. I was once asked about the differences between two groups that both sold, at exorbitant prices, educational materials guaranteeing an exemption from all federal and most State laws.

Admiralty law in the United States was developed from the British admiralty courts present in most of the American colonies. With the Judiciary Act, though, Congress placed admiralty under the jurisdiction of the federal district courts. Although admiralty shares much in common with the civil law, it is separate from it.
