New DOC Policy re COVID-19
COVID-19 continues to spread in prisons and jails in Massachusetts. The current active case count is 320. The state's prison population is at its lowest level in ~35 years. The DOC plans to move 200 incarcerated people at minimum-security prisons to different facilities or home confinement, initiating the Electronic Monitoring Program in February. People returning to the community will be required to wear electronic ankle monitoring devices. Operations at South Middlesex Correctional Center and MCI-Shirley minimum will be suspended. People ineligible to return to the community will be transferred to other minimum security prisons.
