Is Tulia Texas Prison Unit a transfer unit and what about contact visits
Howdy Texans... Its me Marcia -aka- Lonzo's Lady and I need to ask a question for my bff Marj and I hope someone can answer for me; especially since my Baby Daddy Lonzo who was released from TDCJ knows less than nothing other than he was in there and now he's out; end of story!!
Okay, Marj is MWI with a guy named Rick who is in TDCJ at The Tulia Unit. Big Poppa and even Rick himself says Tulia is a Transfer Unit however he's been in there this entire time; almost 2 years now. Marj hasn't gone to visit him since he left Dallas County Jail b/c she thought he'd be moved somewhere ANYWHERE else but if he's gonna remain there ( and it certainly looks like he is) we're ready to go visit. My questions....1. Does anyone know this to be an actual "housing" unit or something other than a transfer unit? 2. Is it possible or "normal" for Inmates to be kept at this unit for the duration of their sentence? 3. Is there a reason why he'd be kept there if this is only a transfer unit?
Rick is serving 5 years and he'll have 2 under his belt on Aug.28th so if we are going to visit him we'd better make that move and I'm thinking since its over 350 miles from Dallas we qualify for a Special Visit (longer than 2 hours) if we can get it approved thru The Warden, right?

Short answer is that offenders can be on a transfer facility up to 2 yrs so sometime between now and august 28th he will be moved.
Thanks Hand...but that is NOT the answer I hoped to get but very helpful anyway. She's been waiting all this time thinking he WOULD BE relocated (Transfer Unit ) so we've put off going and now look at the mess we've gotten ourselves in. s/n...(I made her wait.)
Well this means we'll either scramble and try to get there before they move him or we'll wait a while longer until after they do...Umm Well Marj is self-employed and she can pack-up and go whenever she wants to so I say since we don't know when they will move Rick I vote to go AFTER they do it and pray they move him closer to Dallas so we won't have to drive as far. I think I'll tell Marj YOU said she'd better wait 'cause they will probably/very likely/for sure move him in a day or so...She's real gullible especally if I tell her I got it from The Expert!
