Smile Poem

I wrote this poem back when my boyfriend was locked up in jail, being processed out after the false charge he was locked up on was dropped. When he was waiting, he called me from jail to tell me the news and this poem came about after being inspired by the call. (NOTE: I also posted this poem in another place a while back)

He Stands

He stands before the judge
In a courtroom,
Shackled hand and foot
The knowledge of his innocence
The keys to set him free
Rest outside his hands
He looks straight at the judge
Doesn't let his emotions show through
Despite his chains
He stands resolute
Ready to accept
Whatever comes his way
He doesn't believe in God,
But he knows his true love does
She grows her strong faith
And prays for his body
As well as for his soul
But today he stands
Stands to find
Out his fate
His sweetheart has faith
That God will cause him
To be set free again
The chains are irritating him
They have been for a while
But he knows that how long he stays in them
Will be determined today
He sits and waits
The evidence is presented
It is all in his favor
The decision is made
He goes free!
First, he is taken
Back to the jail
Next, all of the shackles
Are taken off.
He feels instant relief,
Then he is given back his clothes
And all the letters written to him
By family, friends, and his sweetheart
He gets back his wallet and phone,
Then he walks out
A free man
Headed home
