Ab236: How can my inmate appeal to have it apply to him?

Anyone hear familiar with the new AB236 law and how my inmate can appeal to have it apply to him?

As far as I can tell, it is not retroactive, at least not where sentencing is concerned:

Sections 133.3, 133.5,133.7 and 137 of this act effective on July 1, 2019. Sections 1 to 133, inclusive, and 134 to 136, inclusive, of this act effective on July 1, 2020.

EDIT: I meant to include the following: The Budget -- For Fiscal Year 2020-2021, out of $83,133, $78,426 is for salaries.

We knew it wasn't retro, but we thought we could appeal to make the sentence in agreeance with the new law? Not sure of the proper terminology, sorry.

I don't understand the budgeting. If this bill is having less inmates in prison for less time, then why is it increasing the budget so much?

I took it (the budget) to mean that they're creating or hiring a new position.


No, if something isn't retroactive it shouldn't have an effect on those sentenced under the old law

My LO heard that if his sentence didn't start until after this new law went into effect, it should apply to him. So his sentence applicable to AB236 started Sept. The law went into effect in July. Is what he's saying true? It sounds like a dream pipe offered by inmate.com.
